SRSÆ Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ: SRSL), a leading developer of innovative audio and voice technology solutions, today announced that OlympusÆ has licensed its proprietary SRS HEADPHONEô technology and is featuring it in the latest version of the Eye-Trekô face-mounted display series in the new FMD-250W. Olympus incorporated SRS HEADPHONE to dramatically improve the immersive audio experience during DVD movie playback over the lightweight sunglass-style display with stereo earphones that creates a 62-inch wide (16:9) virtual screen. The Eye-Trek is a wearable sunglass-style display capable of recreating a widescreen viewing experience that can be taken anywhere. The weight of the display is only 95g (14 percent less than the current FMD-150W model) and the control unit is only 38g (79 percent less than the current model). The Eye-Trek FMD-250W is compatible with VCRs, camcorders, DVD, videogame consoles, TV and LaserDisc players, and is now available with direct connectivity to Panasonic's DVD-PV40 portable DVD player by way of a dedicated DC-out connector, so that the Eye-Trek FMD-250W does not require an AC adaptor. The new Olympus Eye-Trek FMD-250W, was introduced on at the 2001 CES. According to Olympus, the Eye-Trek will be available at select retailers and at www.Olympus-Eye-Trek.com for a suggested retail price of $699.99. ""Not only does the new FMD-250W weigh less and image quality higher than the original model, but it sounds dramatically better with SRS HEADPHONE,"" said Mr. Yoichi Iba, General Manager of Olympus. ""The immersive surround sound experience that SRS Labs' technology provides will dramatically improve the end user's experience when viewing DVD movies and other video sources by surrounding them with the movie soundtracks, bringing them closer to the action."" The company's proprietary technology significantly improves sound when played over headphones with small transducers because it widens the sound field bringing the user into the middle of the audio field. According to Tom Yuen, Chairman and CEO of SRS Labs, ""Traditionally when listening to stereo audio music or movie tracks through headphones, the brain assumes the sound is coming directly from the center of the head, just behind the eyes. This makes sense because it is the center point between the two ears."" Yuen continued, ""Our SRS HEADPHONE technology utilizes psychoacoustics to pull the sound outside of the head, around the outside of the ears tricking the brain into believing that it is inside a large circle of sound. Thus, the user feels more immersed in the action of a movie or the music."" SRS HEADPHONE is a proprietary audio technology that is utilized within a headphone environment taking sound that is normally perceived to be within the listener's head and moving the perceived location of the sound to outside the listener's into space, creating a more natural listening situation without relying on special recording techniques, encoding or manipulation of the audio signal by phase shift or time delay. The technology provides a realistic and spacious listening experience through any standard stereo headphones. Based on the same psychoacoustic research as the company's patented, award-winning, namesake technology, Sound Retrieval System (SRS), the technology receives the spatial information from the recordings and restores the original three-dimensional sound field. SRS HEADPHONE is already included in many consumer electronics products around the world through licensing agreements with SRS Labs. Products currently featuring SRS HEADPHONE including portable DVD players, Walkmans, MP3 players and many other consumer electronics.
