Pulte, the nationís largest homebuilder, has committed to making structured wiring a standard feature in its new homes, and has signed an agreement with the Leviton Manufacturing Company designating Leviton as its home networking system supplier. As a result of this agreement, Pulte becomes the first national homebuilder in the United States to offer structured media technology as a standard feature instead of an upgrade option. ""Pulte recognizes the significance of structured media to support the lifestyle of the modern homeowner, and wants to make it both convenient and affordable,"" said Alan Laing, Vice President of E-Business Development for the Pulte Corporation. ""Through the agreement with Leviton, we can offer new homebuyers what we consider an ëessential home technology.í"" With the proliferation of home offices, high-speed Internet, and digital and satellite TV, the demand for home networks is exploding. The Leviton Integrated Networksô home system provides the basic infrastructure to support these technologies, in much the same way as residential electrical wiring supports home appliances. ""We see structured media as the ëfourth utility,í along with electric, telephone and gas service,"" said Bill Marshall, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at the Leviton Manufacturing Co., ""and we are truly excited that Pulte has chosen to team with Leviton. Our goal all along was to make this technology simpler and more affordable so it would be within reach of most new home buyers,"" he added. The rollout will start in several regions of the country where Pulte is active. This includes regions in the states of Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Indiana and Nevada. Following this, Pulte homes built throughout its domestic markets will be equipped with the Pulte national standard structured media package. This package includes the Leviton Integrated Networks enclosure box, low-voltage voice and data cabling distributed to various rooms, video cabling for multiple rooms, wall plates and jacks. Homeowners can choose from three standard packages. They can also customize any package to include upgrade options, such as an Ethernet hub for home networking and a video unit for distributing TV, VCR, DVD and satellite signals within the house. Homeowners also have the flexibility to add these and other features at any time in the future, because the wiring to support advanced features is already installed. For more information about Leviton, visit www.leviton.com.
