In response to the success of Sony's original DVD Dreamô system (the DAV-S300), the company is rolling out two new systems for 2001. The units feature the ultimate in sound quality with DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surround decoding, increased total system power, full digital amplifier technology and multichannel Super Audio CD playback functionality. Sony has designed the new single- and five-disc systems to provide all the benefits of DVD-Video, the fastest growing home entertainment format ever, along with the outstanding sonic attributes of the Super Audio CD format - all in one convenient package. All of the new Sony DVD Dream systems center around a single, integrated DVD/CD/SACD unit that features a 5.1-channel digital amplifier and AM/FM receiver with 30 AM/FM station presets. In addition to a combination DVD/CD/SACD receiver with built-in Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro LogicÆ, and DTS decoding, the systems are also equipped with five matching micro satellite speakers for front, center and surround, a passive subwoofer, and color-coded speaker connectors. ""Our DVD Dream systems are designed to provide the whole cinematic experience in one simple, easy to set up, affordable solution,"" said Tim Baxter, Senior Vice President of Home Audio Marketing at Sony Electronics. ""With increased power output performance, improved remote control ergonomics and a sleek new designs, these products offer consumers an even greater entertainment experience."" The new DVD Dream systems (DAV-S500 and DAV-C700) vary in power, feature sets, and price. DAV-S500: Designed for the consumer just entering the DVD solutions market or adding a home theatre system to a second room, the system features an impressive 280 watts total system power, along with a single-disc player for DVD, CD, and SACD multichannel playback capability. Like all players in this year's lineup, it also comes with a new full digital amplifier, delivering outstanding audio performance in a space-saving configuration. Headphone Theater Mode is also added, providing a virtual 5.1-channel experience. The DAV-S500 will be available in July for about $600. DAV-C700: Sony's first five-disc DVD/CD/SACD changer model boasts 350 watts of total system power. The system also features several of the standard attributes of the DVD Dream line, including S-Video outputs and pre-programmed A/V Remote CommanderÆ remote control. Optional speakers stands (WS-FV10A) are available for the DAV-C700, as well as for the DAV-S500. The DAV-S700 will be available in July for about $800.
