Zenith 2001 Digital TVs Include 12 Rear-Projection Integrated HDTVs And HDTV Monitors

Significantly expanding its digital television product offerings, Zenith Electronics Corporation has introduced a dozen rear-projection high definition television (HDTV) products for 2001. The three widescreen (16:9) integrated HDTVs, five 16:9 HDTV monitors and four 4:3 HDTV monitors - which all combine Zenith's ""EZ"" consumer convenience features and high resolution display capability - were unveiled at the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show. Zenith's integrated rear-projection HDTVs, available in 64-, 61- and 56-inch widescreen models, incorporate an all-format ATSC DTV receiver and a high performance NTSC analog tuner. They offer digital convergence, digital comb filters, GuidePlus+ program guide, an intuitive on-screen menu system, ATSC/NTSC PIP (Picture-in-Picture), a universal remote control, parental control, and the Zenith EZ feature package including EZ volume limiter. Zenith's integrated HDTVs feature extensive jack panels including component video, multiple S-Video, 15-pin VGA/HD-DBS inputs and concealed front jacks. The 64W features nine-inch CRTs, while the other two feature seven-inch CRTs. The new 61W model incorporates a fixed-screen protector, while the 64W and 56W sets include removable screen protectors. The 61W, expected to sell for $5,999, is planned for availability in the third quarter of 2001. The 56W ($6,499) and 64W ($7,999) are available now. Zenith's five widescreen HDTV monitors include a 60-inch 16:9 LCD (liquid crystal display) rear projector and four 16:9 CRT rear projectors - one 65-inch set, two 61-inch models and one 56-inch unit: - The LCD rear-projection HDTV monitor, planned for fall 2001 availability, offers the maximum in LCD picture quality with a VGA to XGA resolution of 1280 x 720 and achieves an impressive contrast ratio of 200:1 and a peak brightness of 680cd/m2. With an enhanced viewing angle, the 60-inch LCD rear-projection HDTV monitor offers high resolution component input and S-Video input jacks. The Zenith LCD HDTV 60-inch monitor is planned for fourth quarter availability. Pricing has not yet been announced. - CRT-based widescreen rear-projectors are all designed to accept HDTV inputs and display stunning 1080i HDTV images. All models feature seven-inch CRTs and offer high resolution component video inputs with velocity scan modulation and 3D Y/C digital comb filters. A multitude of jacks include S-Video, component and RGB inputs. Other features include Zenith's EZ Link digital set-top box connector, EZ Sound and EZ Picture controls, built-in screen protector and a high performance NTSC tuner. One of the CRT rear-projection widescreen HDTV monitors will be available in early 2001 at $3,999. Selling prices for the other three models, planned for summer availability, are $3,499 for the 56W, $3,999 for the 61W and $4,999 for the 65W. Four models with 4:3 aspect ratio screens complete Zenith's rear projection HDTV monitor line: two 50- and two 60-inch models. All provide high resolution display capability, high performance NTSC tuner, two-tuner picture-in-picture, screen protector and multiple jacks. Higher end models feature 3D Y/C comb filters and advanced scan velocity modulation, while entry-level models feature three-line digital comb filters. Planned for summer 2001 availability, the 60-inch models are expected to sell for $2,799 and $2,999, while the 50-inch models are expected to sell for $2,299 and $2,499.
