NilesÆ Introduces Nine In-Wall Loudspeakers To Meet Application Needs Of Expanding Custom Installation Market

Adds New ""Performance"" Group And Extends Current Lines

21-Mar-01

Niles Audio Corporation has introduced nine new models of in-wall loudspeakers for a wide variety of custom installation applications, including a new Performance group of loudspeakers and a greater choice of models in the companyís premium speaker lines. Unlike most speaker lines that are grouped solely by price points, Niles continues to base its offering on solutions that are designed for specific applications. All models feature speaker drivers fabricated from new synthetic materials and offer breakthroughs in sound customization and installation ease. This introduction, part of the largest speaker launch in the companyís history, responds to dealer demand for more specialized products and more high-end models, said a company executive. Speakers will begin shipping in February 2001. ""Our new additions create a broader spectrum of high quality in-wall speakers for a variety of applications,"" said Ivan Zuckerman, Niles President. Niles has dramatically enhanced its High Definition group of in-wall speakers, replacing three existing models with four new two-way offerings: the HD5, HD6, HD8 and HD8.3. This group of speakers is ideal for applications requiring superior sound quality. Each features a new injection-molded TCC (talc-carbon-ceramic) woofer, a high BL magnet with vented pole piece, and a 1-inch Teteron dome tweeter mounted in Nilesí new rotating, pivoting tweeter housing, which allows for acoustic fine tuning and enables the installer to custom tailor the sound for any environment. Niles has also added a new snap-in baffle which features anti-resonant wave bracing technology to increase the rigidity of the baffle and raise the resonant frequency so that less out-of-phase cancellation takes place. Other additions include gold plated no-strip input terminals and front baffle bass and treble controls. The top-of-the line HD 8.3 loudspeaker features an 8-inch dual-drive woofer with a hyperbolic dispersion stabilizer for optimum dispersion characteristics. The HD 8.3 has a suggested retail price of $749.95 per pair. The HD8, with a single coil 8-inch woofer, has a suggested retail price of $649.95 per pair. The HD6, with a 6.5-inch woofer, and the HD5, with a 5.25-inch woofer, are retail priced at $500 and $450 per pair respectively. New For 2001 - Performance Group Of Loudspeakers Completely new from Niles are its Performance group of in-wall speakers, which according to Zuckerman, offer optimal value while still delivering quality audio performance. Niles is introducing two two-way models, the PR6 and PR5, both of which utilize tweeters made of KaladexÆ, a trademarked product of DuPont Teijin Films, housed in Nilesí low diffraction precision adjustment tweeter housing, and include snap-in baffle installation, no-strip input terminals, and tone controls for bass and treble adjustment. The Performance series talc-filled polypropylene woofer produces deep bass response and accurate transient response, due to a more powerful motor to drive the cone and a more sophisticated suspension, including butyl rubber surround, to control the cone movement. The PR6, with a 5.25-inch woofer, and the PR5, with a 5.25-inch woofer, are retail priced at $399.95 and $349.95 per pair, respectively. Niles has revamped its Multipurpose group of speakers, offering two new speakers, the MP6, with a 5.25-inch woofer, and MP5, with a 5.25-inch woofer. Both models include snap-in baffle installation, no-strip input terminals and 0.75-inch tweeters of KaladexÆ, a trademarked product of DuPont Teijin Films. The tweeters are housed in Nilesí low diffraction, precision adjustment mechanism. Suggested retail prices for MP6 and MP5 are $299.95 and $249.95 per pair, respectively. Each speaker contains multiple features which are the basis of pending patents. Updated Passive Subwoofer Niles has also updated its 8-inch in-wall passive subwoofer with the introduction of the PSW8, which includes inputs for both left and right channels as well as an installer selectable passive crossover for both woofer and satellite speakers. The speaker features the new injection-molded TCC cone and incorporates the snap-in baffle with anti-resonant wave bracing technology. Its suggested retail price is $249.
