NilesÆ Offers Single-Speaker Stereo: A Solution For Getting High Fidelity Music In Difficult Spaces

New ""Stereo Input"" Loudspeakers Sound Sweet Where Conventional Stereo Does Not

21-Mar-01

Music sounds great in stereo, but many listening environments do not lend themselves to creating the so-called ""sweet spot"" often associated with fine stereo music. Hallways, outdoor areas, or large open rooms are often difficult spaces to produce even, smooth-sounding stereo music. Enter the new ""stereo input"" loudspeaker: a single loudspeaker capable of producing both left and right channels of the stereo signal and delivering a smooth, evenly dispersed sound in a confined space or when using multiple speakers in an array across a broad area. Niles Audio Corporation, Americaís leading manufacturer of whole-home audio systems and components, has developed the first line of stereo input loudspeakers with models to suit a variety of specific listening situations. For example, for hallways or powder rooms, Niles offers round, flush-mount in-ceiling speakers, designed to blend in with recessed lighting. For porches and patios, water-resistant models are available. Other models, housed in resilient, painted polycarbonate cabinets with aluminum grilles, are suited to outdoor use. Niles designs stereo input loudspeakers so that the high and low audio frequencies of each channel, left and right, are handled separately within the same speaker, yielding a high fidelity audio reproduction. Niles accomplishes this by designing each loudspeaker using a dual-voice coil woofer, one coil each for each channelís lower frequency sounds, and using two tweeters for left and right higher frequency sounds. The result is a music system that sounds sweet no matter where the listener is located relative to the speakers. When the listener is seated or moving about, the music sounds as good as it should.
