Sampo Corporation Declares Motorola M-DTVô Module Of Choice For Digital TV-Enabled Sets

North American Consumers To Benefit From Agreement

28-Mar-01

An effort to bring affordable digital TV to the North American marketplace was made by Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Sampo Corporation, the largest TV manufacturer in Taiwan. Motorola's MCT5100 M-DTVô module, part of Motorola's DigitalDNAô embedded solutions, enables Sampo to enter the digital TV market quickly and increase acceptance of digital TV among North American consumers. Integrating into an existing analog TV chassis, the M-DTV module was designed to convert digital TV signals to the existing analog TV format, reducing cost and cycle time of bringing digital technology to the marketplace. Increased precision and clarity of picture is provided by the module, while also delivering CD-quality audio in digital TVs. ""We are excited to have Motorola's M-DTV module in our products,"" stated Peter Chen, Sampo's Vice President, AV Product Unit, Electronics Division. ""This solution enables us to enter the DTV market quickly and economically, which in turn benefits consumers. We will be able to offer consumers the low cost, entertainment alternative that they are demanding."" ""With the intense competition in the DTV industry, we are very pleased that Sampo has chosen Motorola's M-DTV module,"" said Wil Salhuana, Vice President and General Manager of Motorola's Entertainment Solutions Division. ""Consumers are challenging the industry to deliver an affordable HDTV solution and the content to support it. We are proud that Motorola can help drive the acceptance of digital TV by North American consumers."" The MCT5100 M-DTV module integrates Motorola's 8-level vestigial sideband (8-VSB) MCT2100 demodulator, an MPEG decoder and controller to implement a complete Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC) digital television. The MCT4000 is also included in this module and is a transport and video processor for digital television applications. The MCT5100 M-DTV module accepts analog IF input from the TV and features conventional stereo audio output, DolbyÆ Digital (5.1 channel audio output), a choice of multiple video output formats, and an I2C control port. Sampo is now offering their digital TVs containing Motorola's M-DTV module and is branding their unit with Motorola's DigitalDNAô technology logo.
