Sony is unveiling its latest DVD Dreamô System with added power and new mini-tower speaker columns. Like its predecessors in the line, the new DAV-C900 model provides an all-in-one solution, blending design and easy setup with power, advanced technology, and versatility. The C900 features 450 watts of total system power with DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surround decoding. Sony's new S-Masterô integrated full digital amplifier creates high power efficiencies and low heat generation, allowing for a slim, compact profile. The DVD/CD/SACD five-disc changer also comes with five advanced slimline satellite speakers and a subwoofer with an 8-inch driver. ""The C900 is the true embodiment of our DVD Dream System principle: One System, One Box, One Simple Setup, One Unbelievable Experienceô,"" said Tim Baxter, Senior Vice President of the Sony Electronics' Home Entertainment Products Division. ""This new model is designed for the movie and music lover who appreciates high audio and video quality, but does not have the space, time or desire to set up a component system."" he added. Besides providing the ultimate DVD viewing experience, the DVD/receiver includes a frequency synthesis tuner. It also plays CDs, CD-R/RWs, and stereo and multichannel Super Audio CDs (SACDs). New Design Combines Form And Function The unique design of the front and rear surround speakers allows consumers to enjoy a rich audio experience while watching DVDs or listening to music. The integrated speaker stands position the speaker drivers at optimum height while acting as acoustic chambers to improve mid-bass response. All of these speakers can be easily configured to the system with color-coded connectors. The C900 is equipped with all of the other features standard in Sony's DVD Dream System line, including Digital Cinema Soundô processing which recreates the acoustics of Hollywood dubbing stages, a 10-bit video digital-to-analog converter, component and S-Video outputs, and an optical digital audio input for direct satellite feeds. For those times when consumers need to listen on headphones, the C900 has a Headphone Theater mode that takes advantage of the physics of human hearing to simulate the effect of surround sound. The C900 is joined in the DVD Dream System line by the DAV-S500 and DAV-C700, which will be available in July. The C900 will be available in September for under $1,000.
