Vidikron Showcases HDTV-Ready Digital Video Scaler For Top Home Theatre Quality

DVS5500 Automatically Scales HD Signals From 1080i To 1080p Resolution To Deliver Best Possible HDTV Picture

Vidikron of America, the world leader in high performance video projectors and support components, showcased the DVS5500 Digital Video Scaler at Home Entertainment 2001 at the Hilton New York Hotel. Based on the award-winning DVP5000 Digital Video Processor/Scaler by Faroudja Laboratories, Vidikron's DVS5500 is a powerful image processing tool, packed with advanced circuitry and features designed to make it easy to use and install in home theatres. Such refinements as multi-format conversion, color, and detail enhancement, artifact reduction and aspect ratio control work to optimize CRT and other projector technologies, including DLPô, LCD and plasma. The DVS5500's most remarkable feature is its ability to scale or up-convert 1080i high definition signals to 1080p resolution, improving on the best signal quality HDTV currently offers by removing interlace stair-stepping and motion artifacts present in 1080i signals. The processing is both automatic and transparent. Viewers can move through available DTV channels, regardless of whether the high definition formats vary, just as they would on conventional TVs. The DVS5500 optimizes the performance of high-end 8- and 9-inch CRT projectors. It also optimizes fixed-panel displays with resolutions of 1280 x 1024 and above that employ LCD, DLP, D-ILAô and plasma technologies. Such displays require a progressive input, which the DVS5500 delivers, ensuring the highest possible picture quality. The DVS5500 also automatically up-converts HDTV 480p signals to 960p, while passing 720p signals through the device. Standard 480i sources can be scaled up to 1080p, creating a remarkably movie-like image from virtually any video source. For 480i sources, the DVS5500 deinterlaces incoming video signals and eliminates visible artifacts. Patented built-in technologies eliminate motion artifacts from video-originated material, prevent the introduction of motion artifacts from any source, and transform conventional signals to produce a film-like image. The processor's bandwidth expansion technology is optimized for each output scan rate and creates superb edge detail. Other key features include two-line time base correction to stabilize lower quality video sources, such as VHS tapes, a 10-bit chroma decoder to improve color reproduction, and enhanced noise reduction control. Adaptive comb filter technology further enhances color reproduction and reduces video artifacts. A non-volatile memory stores user-adjustable settings, such as those for contrast, brightness, color, tint, noise reduction and detail. A full-featured scaler, the DVS5500 provides additional flexibility through built-in aspect-ratio control for letterbox, 4:3, and anamorphic sources. Since the DVS5500 can convert standard NTSC signals to any computer rate up to SXGA resolution plus 720p, 1080i, and 1080p HDTV rates, the DVP5000ís output can match the native resolution of fixed-panel projectors or maximize the resolution of a CRT projector. Rear-panel connections include a special HDTV input, 480p component inputs to accommodate progressive DVD players, and standard component, S-Video, and composite inputs. RGB and component outputs increase flexibility. The processor can be controlled with a multi-component IR remote, also included, or from a computer via the RS-232 serial port. A Y-Pr-Pb output option allows the DVS5500 to connect to the growing number of entry-level HDTV-ready sets in which an RGB output may not be compatible. The DVS5500 Digital Video Scaler is available now at a suggested retail price of $25,995. For additional information about Vidikron of America, visit www.vidikron.com.
