McIntosh Laboratory, a world leader in home entertainment systems for over 50 years, exhibited the UR12 Universal Remote Controller at Home Entertainment 2001, at the Hilton New York Hotel. The UR12 builds upon McIntoshís commitment to bring a new approach to consumer and custom installation markets by providing a user-friendly environment for fully-integrated McIntosh products. Running on four AA alkaline batteries, the UR12 Universal Remote Controller is a hand-held IR remote transmitter designed to operate all McIntosh equipment, plus the A/V components of hundreds of other manufacturers. It employs 13 buttons, a joystick, and a lighted programmable LCD touch-screen. The buttons operate the most common commands such as those for power-on, volume, and transport. The buttons are also large and illuminated, making the UR12 easy to view and operate in a home theatre environment. Hundreds of command codes from a wide array of A/V gear are preprogrammed into the UR12. Entering a code on the touch screen or scrolling through a list of component makes and models allows installers and users to quickly and easily set up of other brand components. The remote is also capable of learning the IR codes from products not already programmed into the UR12. The memory lock system maintains programmed and learned functions for extended periods, even when batteries need to be changed. The buttons and the commands that appear on the UR12ís touch-screen are easily customized to fit any application, Up to 15 macro buttons can be programmed for system control, along with 60 favorite channel buttons. A PC data in/out port allows the UR12 to interface directly with a PC for editing and downloading new and archiving learned codes. The five-way joystick is used to navigate the onscreen menus. The UR12 Universal Remote Controller is available now at a suggested price of $500. For more information about McIntosh Laboratory, visit www.mcintoshlabs.com.
