In a move appealing to installers of home electronic and boardroom systems, Kenwood USA Corporation announced that home theatre receivers and DVD changers in its new Kenwood Sovereignô line are fully compatible with Crestron control systems, an outcome of Kenwoodís joining the Crestron Internet Industry Partnership (I2P) earlier this year. The components - four digital receivers, two DVD-Audio/Video components, and one DVD-Video mega-changer - are each equipped with an RS-232 connector for plug-and-play operation with Crestron systems. Crestron will begin posting RS-232 codes for Kenwood Sovereign components on the Crestron dealer Intranet Web site as Kenwood begins shipping its first models to dealers this summer. Dealers will be able to download control codes from the Crestron Intranet and install them in Crestron systems, both new and previously installed. In a related development, Kenwood announced that Crestron codes for IR control over Kenwood 4000 Series components, including the receivers and DVD players introduced in 2000, are immediately available from Crestron. The RS-232 connection present on the new Kenwood Sovereign components (designated by 5000-series model numbers) allows two-way communications between components and the control system, enabling a higher degree of control than is possible with IR communication alone. The compatibility of the new products allows Crestron customers who use Kenwood components to enjoy exclusive technologies developed specifically for home theatre and multi-room entertainment, such as Universal Videoô HD (for both standard and high definition TV), Ultrasonic Response Amplifiersô, and fully independent dual-zone, dual-source control. ìWeíve made it easy and inviting for custom installers to integrate our products into single and multi-room systems,î said Bob Law, Kenwood Vice President of Sales and Marketing. ìOur strategic partnership with Crestron and other companies, along with the creation of Kenwood Sovereign, is expanding our market and brand acceptance.î The Kenwood Sovereign components with Crestron compatibility are the VR-5900 and VR-5700 THXÆ Ultra receivers, VR-5090 and VR-5080 THX Select receivers, the DV-5900M 400-disc DVD-Audio/Video mega-changer, DV-5700 five-disc DVD-Audio/Video carousel, and the DV-5050M 400-disc DVD-Video mega-changer.ìCrestronís I2P initiative is designed to promote partner manufacturers products as ëplug-n-playí devices in real world installations,î said Chris Wildfoerster, Crestronís Business Development Manager. ìKenwood and Crestron have been working closely together to ensure our dealers know that the Kenwood Sovereign series integrates seamlessly in a Crestron network environment.îFor more information about Kenwood USA Corporation, visit www.kenwoodusa.com.
