Toshiba is dramatically expanding and improving its line of ""purely flat"" FSTÆ Pureô color TVs, introducing a total of 15 models in seven screen sizes for 2001. With high performance sets ranging from a new 14-inch portable to 32- and 36-inch HD-compatible models as well as a state-of-the-art 34-inch widescreen HD-compatible set, Toshiba now offers the ideal solution for everyone seeking the ultimate in flat-screen TV quality. Toshiba's FST Pure flat-screen picture tube is the latest advancement in a long line of Toshiba direct-view picture tube breakthroughs, including Blackstripe, FST Black, and FST Perfect. Thanks to its improved screen geometry and advanced tube design, the FST Pure picture tube creates an image of unprecedented detail and color purity, with significantly less image distortion and glare than conventional screens. In addition, the perfectly flat screen offers viewers the widest possible viewing angle for maximum picture quality from virtually anywhere in the room. For maximum image quality at all times, Toshiba FST Pure TVs utilize a special Formed Mask flat-screen picture tube which ensures that optimum image quality is maintained at all times and is unaffected by sound vibrations from internal TV speakers or subwoofers.New Cinema Mode (3:2 Pull-Down) Feature For Superior Film-Based Video ContentToshiba's FST Pure color TVs are designed to offer the ultimate in image quality from all video sources. For example, all four new Toshiba FST Pure HDTV-compatible sets (models 32HFX71, 36HF71, 36HFX71, and 34HF81) feature a unique new image-enhancing technology called Cinema Mode (3:2 pull-down). Using the on-screen display, consumers may select a special ""Cinema Mode"" which allows the TV to display a more realistic and detailed reconstruction of film-based (24 fps) video content such as DVD movies, eliminating the image-degrading artifacts caused by improper processing of film-based content. When viewing original video source material, this feature can be turned off to avoid unnecessary processing. FST Pure HD: Ultimate Video PerformanceFor optimum digital TV performance in its 32-, 34-, and 36-inch FST Pure HD sets, Toshiba incorporates newly improved IDSC II (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) technology that automatically converts 480i images to 480p, and automatically passes through 480p and 1080i images. The system employs vertical line doubling and frame doubling, and horizontal pixel doubling technologies to achieve optimum picture quality with an absence of image-degrading motion artifacts. These processes have also been significantly improved in Toshiba's new FST Pure HD sets with the addition of two new technological advancements - Hyper Progressive Scanning, which eliminates all motion artifacts and jagged lines caused by on-screen motion, and Advanced Digital Video Noise Reduction, which automatically analyzes the on-screen image and applies the precise amount of noise reduction necessary to maintain absolute image clarity and crispness at all times.All Toshiba FST Pure TVs offer a full complement of audio and video inputs and outputs, including ColorStream component video inputs, to provide easy connection to all future audio or video components. In addition, all FST Pure HDTV-compatible sets feature two sets of ColorStreamÆ HD high definition component video inputs for the best picture quality from a choice of digital display devices. The WOW system utilizes three companion technologies, including: SRS 3D, which creates a three-dimensional soundfield from two speakers or headphones, TruBass, which utilizes the sound reproduction theory of a pipe organ to produce rich and powerful low frequency audio from small speakers or headphones, and FOCUS, which raises the sound image vertically, creating a more vivid and clear soundfield. All three of these audio enhancement technologies work together to expand the audio ""sweet spot,"" allowing all viewers to experience optimum sound quality no matter where they sit in the room.New Convenience FeaturesToshiba has made user convenience a top priority in its new line of FST Pure color TVs. For example, all new HD-compatible models feature a special Speed Surf function. When viewers hold down either the Channel Up or Down button on the remote, a Speed Surf box appears onscreen, allowing them to speed through all available channels. In addition, a two-level mute function on all HD-compatible sets allows viewers to reduce volume by 50 percent with the first press of the mute button, then press it a second time for full mute.
