With improved image-enhancing technologies, new cabinet designs and an expanded range of HDTV-ready and widescreen sets, Toshiba's line of high performance projection color TVs for 2001 demonstrates the company's clear leadership in this increasingly important and fast-growing category. Toshiba's line of projection TVs for 2001 includes a total of 17 high performance sets, ranging in screen size from 42 to 65 inches, including 13 HDTV-compatible models, seven widescreen models, and five state-of-the-art Cinema Series TVs - providing consumers with more choices in screen size, pricing and feature packages than any other projection television manufacturer. This year, Toshiba has focused on image-enhancing features including PowerFocus HC optics for sharper, images with higher contrast, IDSC Pro scan conversion system for the best possible high resolution images, TouchFocus auto-convergence for faster, more accurate digital convergence at the touch of a button, a special Ambient Light Sensor for optimum home theatre enjoyment in all room lighting conditions, and a new Dynamic Contrast feature for near film-like image quality. ""In the last few years, more and more people are moving up to projection TV,"" said Scott Ramirez, Toshiba's Vice President of Marketing. ""Toshiba has consistently led the industry with the most advanced models and the widest range of choice. We now offer a projection TV for virtually everyone, whether it's analog or HDTV-compatible, 4:3 or 16:9. More importantly, we remain focused on picture quality. Throughout the line, we've made significant engineering advancements in picture quality technology, creating truly future-ready performance.""Expanded Lineup Of High Performance Widescreen SetsToshiba widescreen projection TV lineup ranges from the company's first-ever 42-inch widescreen model (42H81) to the state-of-the-art 65-inch Cinema Series 65HX81. With a new, ultramodern cabinet design and a full range of performance and convenience features, all seven Toshiba widescreen projection TVs are designed to display the highest quality 16:9 images, reproducing film-based content such as DVD movies with all the full-screen impact intended by the director.TouchFocus For Faster, More Accurate Digital Convergence Toshiba HD-compatible projection TVs benefit from a significant image-enhancing technology called TouchFocus. This automatic digital convergence system makes it faster and easier to accurately adjust all three CRTs for the sharpest, clearest image possible in any home theatre situation. TouchFocus utilizes four optical sensors (located behind the projection TV screen), and advanced chip technology to create perfect convergence at the touch of a button. Unlike conventional manual convergence systems, TouchFocus automatically adjusts for variances in natural, and man-made magnetic fields from sources such as speakers, offering total flexibility in a wide variety of home theatre configurations.Cinema Mode (3:2 Pull-Down) For The Ultimate in High Definition Image QualityFor the ultimate in high definition image quality, most Toshiba projection TVs feature a unique new image-enhancing technology called Cinema Mode (3:2 pull-down). Using the on-screen display, consumers may select a special ""Cinema Mode"" which allows the TV to display a more realistic and detailed reconstruction of film-based (24 fps) video content such as DVD movies, eliminating the image-degrading artifacts caused by improper processing of film-based content. When viewing original video source material, this feature can be turned off to avoid unnecessary processing. Ambient Light Sensor Provides Ideal Viewing In All Lighting ConditionsTo maintain optimum home theatre viewing in all room lighting conditions, all Toshiba widescreen projection TVs include a specially designed photoelectric Ambient Light Sensor built into the front panel of the TV set. Using a total of 60 different contrast gradations, this provides an automatic adjustment of the contrast level, based on ambient room lighting conditions. This ensures that the picture will never be too dark in the daytime or too bright at night. This may be turned off using the on-screen display, if desired. To improve image quality even further, all Toshiba HD-compatible projection TVs include a new Dynamic Contrast feature. Dynamic Contrast significantly improves the set's contrast ratio, and enhances color reproduction and saturation for near film-like quality. Stylish New Projection TV CabinetsToshiba has redesigned the cosmetics of its projection TV lineup for 2001, offering consumers a stylish, slim and elegant centerpiece for any home theatre system. Cinema Series projection TVs, for example, feature striking two-toned cabinets with dark speaker grilles and inset front panels set off by a lighter silver bezel. And for the ultimate in placement flexibility, all Toshiba projection TVs are designed to display the screen at the proper viewing height without the need for a separate TV stand. New IDSC Pro Technology, Optimized For Projection TVFor optimum digital TV performance in all new Toshiba HD-compatible projection TV sets, the company has improved on its advanced IDSC II (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) technology, which utilizes Advanced Digital Video Noise Reduction to automatically analyze the on-screen image and apply the precise amount of noise reduction necessary for absolute image clarity and crispness. All new Toshiba HDTV-compatible projection TVs now feature the upgraded IDSC Pro system, which includes all the image-enhancing benefits of IDSC II, but is optimized for improved projection TV performance. IDSC Pro automatically converts 480i and 480p images to 540p, and directly passes through 1080i images. Like IDSC II, the IDSC Pro system employs vertical line doubling and frame doubling, plus horizontal pixel doubling technologies to achieve optimum picture quality. These processes have also been significantly improved in IDSC Pro with the addition of a significant new technological advancement - Hyper Progressive Scanning, which doubles the size of the memory buffer (sampling 13,600 points), eliminating all motion artifacts and jagged lines caused by on-screen motion. The new IDSC Pro system significantly improves both focus and convergence accuracy.Improved PowerFocus HD Optic SystemFurther improving projection TV image quality, many Toshiba projection TVs, including all Cinema Series HD projection models, feature the company's new PowerFocusô HD Optic System. This includes the PowerFocus Plus six-element lens system. In addition, many Toshiba projection TVs feature new improved PowerFocus HD Plus CRTs that provide an additional 20 percent increase in sharpness over conventional CRTs. To achieve this dramatic image improvement, PowerFocus HD Plus CRTs utilize two unique Toshiba technologies, Impregnated Cathode technology for a sharper image and longer CRT life, plus a special Spherical Phosphor layer which creates better image uniformity and resists burn-in. In addition to Toshiba's six-element PowerFocus HD Plus lens system, many new models feature one of Toshiba's new high contrast lens systems, either the four-element PowerFocus HC or five-element PowerFocus HCF system. These new lens systems feature an advanced design that is precision-tuned to Toshiba's projection TV ""Color Wavelength"" design, to custom match and enhance color reproduction. A special optical cement used in lens construction provides sharper, clearer resolution.Toshiba's TheaterBrightô HD high contrast projection screens, included in all HDTV-compatible projection TV models, increase corner brightness, resulting in more uniform brightness across the screen. Toshiba's new Cinema Series HD projection sets also feature built-in TheaterShieldô AR (anti-reflective) protection screens, which include a new unique anti-reflective layer for increased contrast and reduced glare by over 50 percent, with no reduction in brightness. To improve image quality even further, all new Toshiba HD-compatible projection TVs include a new Dynamic Contrast feature. Dynamic Contrast significantly improves the set's contrast ratio and enhances color reproduction and saturation. The resulting 480i source images are enhanced to near film-like quality.Advanced Convenience FeaturesToshiba's new line of HDTV-compatible TVs also feature a host of convenience features. For example, an improved color icon-based on-screen display with bitmap graphics makes it easier than ever before to navigate through the entire range of TV functions. Additional features on all HDTV-compatible models include speed surf, two-level mute, direct video input selection, video lock, video labeling, PIP sound, and more. Two Sets Of ColorStream HD Component Video InputsTo provide consumers with the ultimate in flexibility and performance, all Toshiba HDTV-compatible TVs feature two sets of ColorStreamÆ HD high definition component video inputs.
