Boston AcousticsÆ Establishes New Reference Benchmark With Two Top-Of-The-Line Floor-Standing Speakers

5-Jul-01

Building on its critically acclaimed VR-M series, Boston Acoustics, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOSA) introduced two new floor-standing tower speakers - the VR-M90 and VR-M80 - which will take the position of the finest loudspeakers made by Boston Acoustics. These new full-size speakers establish the new benchmark as Bostonís performance leaders in the VR-M reference speaker line, and deliver the companyís renowned Boston Soundô with an unparalleled combination of crafted elegance, dynamic sonic accuracy, and cutting edge technology. The new VR-M90 and VR-M80 sonically and aesthetically complement the award-winning VR-M bookshelves (VR-M60 and 50), center, and surround speakers to create an attractive and exciting reference home theatre system. The VR-M90 and 80 cabinets are clad in a hand-rubbed cherry hardwood veneer. Extra-thick MDF is used throughout for maximum cabinet rigidity and minimum coloration, and a vertical brace runs the entire height of both cabinets to further reduce unwanted cabinet resonance and ensure audio purity. Designed and manufactured at Boston Acousticsí own Peabody facility, the VR-M90 and VR-M80 are built on Boston Acousticsí proprietary production lines to the companyís exacting high standards - widely respected as the industryís tightest tolerances. Product Specifications And Technology Highlights The VR-M90 and VR-M80 feature Bostonís highly respected 1-inch VR tweeter with AMDô to deliver flat response and wide dispersion. Both models also employ both ferrofluid and a cast aluminum heat sink on the tweeters to enhance power handling and reliability. The woofers on both models use cast aluminum baskets for improved heat dissipation and power handling. The dual 5.25-inch active woofers in the VR-M80 extend low frequency response to 42 Hz (+/-3dB), and the VR-M90 uses dual 6.5-inch DCDô woofers in a larger enclosure, yielding increased bass output with extension down to 36 Hz. The VR-M90 additionally features a brand new 3.5-inch midrange driver designed exclusively for this model. Its cast aluminum basket has an integral yoke for its neodymium magnet, assuring extraordinary heat dissipation characteristics. The VR-M90 and VR-M80 enclosures are both vented designs, using a port that is flared on both ends to eliminate port noise. Dual high quality, five-way, gold-plated binding posts are used on both models for maximum hookup flexibility and conductivity. The crossovers for the VR-M90 and VR-M80 have been built with optimum performance in mind. An extra-thick glass epoxy printed circuit board supports thicker traces, high-grade components, 16-gauge wire and gold-plated connections. Both of these new models are equipped with MagnaGuardÆ magnetic shielding, which eliminates interference with the video monitor or TV so the speakers can be ideally placed in home theatre environments. Distribution Both the VR-M90 and VR-M80 are available as of the second quarter of 2001, and will be sold only at Boston Acousticsí authorized retailers.
