With industry sales of DVD players up more than 60 percent over 2000, Thomson multimedia (Euroclear: 18453) (NYSE:TMS) is offering a new video products that leverage the benefits of digital technology. To support the continued phenomenal growth of the DVD category, Thomson is offering an extensive line of new RCA-brand DVD-Video players that provide consumers with a wide variety of features and capabilities including progressive scan and portability. As an added advantage, all DVD playback models incorporate MP3 playback and are compatible with CD-R and CD-RW discs. ""DVD is the fastest growing product category in the history of consumer electronics and Thomson is capitalizing on this growth with a range of new DVD products,"" Bosler said. To provide digital television owners with the best possible DVD source, Thomson is offering Model RC6001P, a progressive scan player. This unit provides more film-like image quality and has 3:2 pull-down, which eliminates select digital artifacts. To accommodate viewersí personal preferences, the player has multiple aspect ratios which allow consumers to switch between 4:3, 4:3 letterbox and 16:9 formats with a press of a single button. Other convenience features include parental rating control, multi-language and subtitle capability, chapter and track search/repeat, 2x and 4x zoom, and random playback. The player has digital optical and coaxial outputs for both DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surroundô. The RC6001P, with its silver cabinet finish, has a suggested retail price of $349 and will be available in August. The portable DVD-Video player, Model RC5400P, has a 5.8-inch active matrix color display and weighs just 5.2 pounds. It has multiple aspect ratios including 4:3, 4:3 letterbox and 16:9 formats. Convenience features include parental rating control capability, multi-language/subtitle capability, programmable playback, chapter/track search and repeat, repeat A-B (repeats specified program segment), random playback on CDs, and index. It comes with a compact remote that controls most functions, a two+ hour lithium ion battery, and cables for connecting to your TV. The RC5400P is now available in Target and Wal-Mart stores and has a suggested retail price of $699. Thomsonís first combination DVD/VCR unit is the RCA VC125HF, which provides space-saving convenience with a 17-inch wide cabinet. The VCR is a four-head hi-fi unit with VCR Plus+ô, and MacrovisionÆ copy protection. The DVD-Video player has S-Video, component, and digital audio outputs, and is Dolby Digital and DTS compatible. This dual unit can output both DVD and VCR signals from one composite or RF connection for easy connection to your TV. Suggested retail price is $399, and it will be available in stores nationwide this fall. To accommodate consumers who use their DVD-Video player as a music or video jukebox, Thomson is offering the RC5915P, a five-disc changer model. This unit has a disc exchange feature that allows users to change four discs while one plays, disc skip, 2x and 4x zoom, component video outputs, is Dolby Digital and DTS compatible, and has a TV/DVD remote. Suggested retail price is $349 and it will be available in the fall. Model RC5255P offers jog/shuttle and navigation control on the deck, Intelli-Seek, which offers four forward and reverse and three slow forward and reverse speeds and time/edit search. The RC5255 also features Scene Snip, Scene Again, multiple aspect ratios, as well as parental rating control/lock, multi-language/subtitle capability, and is Dolby Digital and DTS capable. The unit has optical and coaxial digital audio outputs and component video outputs, as well as 1.5x, 2x and 4x zoom. This model has a slim designed silver cabinet finish and side loading for easy access. Suggested retail price for Model RC5255P is $299, and it will be available in August. The final model, RC5240, is a basic player that also incorporates CD-R, CD-RW, and mp3 playback, 2x and 4x zoom, component video out, repeat A-B and a TV/DVD remote.
