Russound, the popular New England-based manufacturer of connectivity products, announced the DPA-4.8 multichannel amplifier to its complete line of residential systems products. With a suggested retail price of $999 and weighing only 32 pounds, the DPA-4.8 is a versatile and powerful amplifier that is ideal for home theatre as well as professional multi-zone installations. The DPA-4.8 has the power, sound quality and features one would expect in an amplifier at twice the price. The robust amplifier delivers 50 watts per channel stereo into each of eight channels, at an 8-ohm impedance. For added versatility, the DPA-4.8 can be easily bridged via the unitsí built-in Stereo/Bridge-Mono Selector. In this bridged mode, the amplifier then delivers four mono channels at 100 watts each. Among its many valuable features, the DPA-4.8ís amplifier section (in any mode) boasts high current twin-toroidal power supplies that deliver high performance under the most demanding applications and program material. For the most extreme high level passages, the amplifier also utilizes a sophisticated Dynamic Clipping Sensor to minimize distortion and prevent damage to the loudspeakers. Individual gain controls are convenient for setting a limit or maximum output to a zone, or to fine-tune the balance between left and right loudspeakers. For an extra measure of reliability, the DPA-4.8 also incorporates signal sensing inputs that prevent annoying ìturn-on pops,î which in turn can damage the loudspeakers. Each amplifier section will turn on once an audio signal is sensed, or turn off when an audio signal is no longer present.At the input stage, the DPA-4.8 provides both bus and line inputs. This choice allows the amplifier to be used for virtually all multi-zone and home theatre applications. In addition, an Adjustable Mute Delay eliminates false turn-off during soft passages in music or during long pauses between songs. This delay is variably adjustable from a minimum of 25 seconds to a maximum of 10 minutes. The DPA-4.8 is now available for immediate delivery from Russound and will debut at CEDIA EXPO 2001.
