Active Thermal Management announced the availability of Cool-Tubesô, a new ventilating system for use by custom audio-video installers. Cool-tubes consists of a pair of flexible, acoustically-insulated tubes; each tube incorporates an in-line module housing two virtually silent fans. One tube brings fresh air in as the other exhausts hot air - together they provide thermostatically-controlled silent ventilation for smaller enclosures, and were designed with video projectors in mind. Many DLPô, D-ILAÆ and LCD projectors generate annoying levels of fan noise and light leakage, making them difficult to use in a residential application. These problems can be greatly reduced by installation in an insulated enclosure. Cool-tubes will supply room air to and remove heated air from an enclosed projector, eliminating problems associated with overheating. The tubes connect easily to attractive diffusers that mount to the exterior walls of the enclosure to be ventilated. Two thermal switches are located near the projectorís hot air exhaust, and the fan modules are connected to an AC outlet. The intake and exhaust systems are completely independent for 100 percent redundancy for maximum protection against overheating in the event of a component failure. Enclosure design assistance is available from the company.Specifications:Dimensions: tubes - 4 inches (inner diameter) x 6 inches (outer diameter, exhaust), 4 inches (outer diameter, intake) Fan modules: 6.25 x 6.25 x 7 inchesFans: 4.7 inches square, two per moduleAir flow: 65 CFM (free air)Noise level: 32 dB (A-weighted)Finish (diffusers): whiteMSRP: $399For more information, visit www.activethermal.com.
