Samsung Enters Progressive Scan DVD Category With DVD-P701

31-Jul-01

Samsung Electronics America extends their DVD lineup with the introduction of the DVD-P701, a state-of the-art DVD-Video player featuring progressive scan output (480p). Progressive scan offers the best possible image available for DVD players. Samsungís DVD-P701 will be available in August of 2001 for an MSRP of $299.99. Progressive scanning is the key to the sharpest picture quality that the DVD format has to offer. All DVDs are produced in progressive scan. But, until recently, DVD players have reformatted the signal using alternating lines, or interlaced (480i), to create a complete picture. The result is a huge loss in picture quality. With progressive scan output, the DVD-P701 produces a fluid, theatre-quality picture by scanning all 480 lines in one pass, offering a seamless picture. ìSamsungís progressive scan images are flicker-free and show on-screen movement without lingering artifacts,î said Claude Frank, Senior Manager of Samsungís Digital Convergence Group. ìAnd, since all DVDs have been produced using 480p, progressive scan content already exists in current DVD libraries.î Samsungís DVD-P701 also employs an intelligent 3:2 pull-down system which identifies images that were originally shot on film and converts them back to a film-quality picture. With the 3:2 pull-down system, progressive scan ability and the addition of component video outputs, the DVD-P701 offers a potent one-two-three punch, equaling an unrivaled picture quality. The DVD-P701 also features dual-laser pickups, a slim cabinet with jog/shuttle dial and a jog shuttle remote control, allowing the consumer to scan forward or backward with a turn of the shuttle ring.
