Sales Of Digital Audio And Video Home Theatre Products Up During Second Quarter

Consumers Continue To Embrace The Home Theatre Experience

According to figures released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), manufacturer-to-dealer sales of home theatre components remained strong during the second quarter of 2001, with several products experiencing significant growth, including digital television (DTV) products, DVD players, speaker separates and packages and home theatre-in-a-box-systems. Total factory sales of DTV products, which include monitors and integrated sets, increased by 90 percent to $375 million during the second quarter. Year-to-date dollar sales of DTV products also increased 104 percent over the same period in 2000 to $865 million. DVD players continue to post gains with factory dollar sales of $342 million during the second quarter, up nine percent from 2000 figures. Additionally, dollar sales of DVD players have increased year-to-date totals by 27 percent to $762 million. Second quarter factory sales for home theatre-in-a-box systems grew by 101 percent to $135 million, while year-to-date dollar sales were up 116 percent to $264 million. Manufacturer-to-dealer sales of speaker separates and packages increased 46 percent to $61 million for the quarter and 35 percent to $111 million for year-to-date totals.
