Boston Acoustics Introduces New Loudspeaker With Unprecedented Placement Flexibility

22-Aug-01

Boston AcousticsÆ, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOSA) introduced a new, high performance loudspeaker -- the Boston BravoÆ -- offering more placement options than any speaker available. These elegant, sculpted speakers offer consumers the Boston Soundô in applications and locations where placing conventional, box-shaped loudspeakers represents an unacceptable solution. This installation flexibility makes the Bravo adept at theatre, stereo, commercial or whole-house applications. Once in place, a Bravo speaker has the ability to blend seamlessly with a room's decor. The Boston Bravo is essentially one-quarter of a cylinder, allowing it to be mounted vertically at any height in a corner, or horizontally at the top of a wall, where wall and ceiling meet. Attaching the Boston Bravo to any surface is as simple as mounting the bracket to the wall, removing the grille from the speaker and then attaching the speaker to the bracket using the supplied screws. Once the grille is placed back on the speaker, the means of attachment is invisible. Additionally, the Boston Bravo can be placed either horizontally or vertically on any flat surface, such as a table or a shelf. The Boston Bravo can also be used as a side or back wall surround speaker. Since the Boston Bravo is sold singly, three can be used as surround speakers for Surround EXô and DTSÆ-ES applications. By virtue of its industry-respected Boston VR tweeter, and the neutral character of the Boston Soundô, it is an economical and appropriate choice as surround speakers for almost any home theatre system. Because it is designed as a high performance, general-purpose speaker, the Boston Bravo is suitable for any high-fidelity application where it is important that the speaker blends into its surroundings. The Boston Bravo is well suited for background and whole-house music applications, and its cleverly-designed mounting bracket allows it be placed in a wide variety of locations, and to be angled for optimum sound quality and three-dimensional imaging. When a pair is placed vertically in the corners of a room, the Boston Bravo creates surprisingly wide dispersion, providing accurate sound reproduction over a broad area. For full-range applications (like home theatre), it is recommended that the Boston Bravo be used in conjunction with one of Bostonís powered subwoofers -- the PV400, 600, 800 or 1000. The Boston Bravo's low frequency limit is 80 Hz, allowing for a great deal of placement flexibility for the subwoofer. The Boston Bravo features Boston's highly respected, 1-inch VR tweeter with AMDô to deliver flat response beyond audibility and wide, uniform dispersion. The speaker also employs both ferrofluid and an extruded-aluminum heat sink on the tweeter to enhance power handling and reliability. The 4.5-inch woofer extends low-frequency response to 80 Hz (at -3 dB). The Boston Bravo enclosure is a vented design, to allow the woofer to ""breathe"" freely, and uses flares around the vent to help eliminate port noise. High quality, spring-loaded, gold-plated binding posts are used for maximum hookup flexibility. The supplied bracket for the Boston Bravo allows for quick and easy mounting of the speaker to the wall. The Boston Bravo can be mounted where any two or three room surfaces meet. The Boston Bravo will be available in the third quarter of 2001, and will be sold only at Boston Acoustics specialty retailers. The Boston Bravo is available in either white or black, with a matching cloth grille. It is sold singly, and has an MSRP of $199.95.
