First A/V Receivers Featuring DTS 96 kHz/24-Bit High Resolution Surround Sound Announced

DTS Delivers Highest Resolution Surround Sound For DVD-Video With 96/24 Technology

11-Sep-01

DTSÆ, a leader in surround sound digital audio, announced that Pioneer and Denon are the first companies to incorporate DTS 96 kHz/24-bit (96/24) high resolution surround sound in their flagship A/V receivers. DTS is the first to develop 96/24 technology for 5.1-channel surround sound, while still allowing for full-motion video on a DVD-Video disc. As the entertainment industry moves towards archiving material in 96/24 high resolution, the number of movies and music releases utilizing 96/24 on DVD-Video is expected to grow dramatically in the coming years. DTS 96/24 technology raises the bar on high resolution audio for DVD-Video by delivering greater bit depths, which provide extended dynamic range, and higher sampling rates, which allow wider frequency response, which combine to provide the listener with a more refined audio performance than they've experienced before on DVD-Video. DTS publicly introduced 96/24 high resolution for use on DVD-Video and DVD-Audio discs earlier this year at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) conference in Amsterdam. ""We are pleased that CE industry leaders Pioneer and Denon are the first to deliver surround sound products featuring DTS 96/24 technology. By using DTS 96/24 technology, they will provide their customers superior audio performance that will accommodate future trends in the recording industry,"" said Jon Kirchner, DTS President and COO. DTS 96/24 can also be placed in the video zone of a DVD-Audio disc to enable people with DVD-Video players to enjoy the high resolution surround sound audio experience. The DTS 96/24 soundtrack, on either DVD-Video or DVD-Audio, is fully backward compatible with all existing DTS decoders. The DTS 96/24-equipped Denon and Pioneer receivers also feature DTS-ESÆ and DTS Neo:6Æ. DTS-ES is a 6.1-channel surround sound technology available in discrete and matrix modes, and is fully backward compatible with 5.1-channel DTS decoders. DTS Neo:6 is a matrix decoding technology that provides a surround sound experience for any stereo source material such as VHS tapes, broadcast television or conventional music CDs.
