PS Audio exhibited the PS Audio Ultimate Outlet, an important addition to its growing family of innovative power delivery systems, at CEDIA EXPO 2001. The compact, high performance outlet is designed to replace existing wall sockets in a customer's music and video room, providing clean and protected AC at an affordable cost -- as well as immediate sonic and visual improvements from home theatre and A/V system components. The Ultimate Outlet is available in Standard and High-Current models. It completely eliminates common and differential mode noise, protects equipment from surges and spikes, and reduces the output impedance of AC power from the wall outlet by a factor of three. No power conditioner can make the same claim. The Standard Ultimate Outlet produces up to 15 amps of preconditioned, clean power through a precision wound Balun, which is a toroidal transformer core with identical balanced windings around each half of the donut-shaped toroid. The High-Current Ultimate Outlet produces up to 20 amps and offers consumers the choice of a 15- or 20-amp IEC connector. Both are wound with hundreds of strands of copper Litz wire and terminated in a network of Class X2 and Class Y2 film capacitors. The Ultimate Outlet can handle any load common to wall outlets -- and loads well above the levels set by Underwriters Laboratory of 1875 watts for a 15-amp circuit and 2500 watts for a 20-amp circuit. This means the appropriate Ultimate Outlet will provide protection for virtually any size power amplifier, PS Audio Power Plant AC power generator, video projector, TV or other source equipment. Sonic and visual improvements from connected components will be astonishing.PS Audio recommends the Standard model for all video applications, including small projectors and TVs, as well as small, medium and integrated amplifiers, and surround sound receivers. The High-Current Ultimate Outlet, while also suitable for these uses, is specifically recommended for use with big power amplifiers and large CRT video projectors. Before the Ultimate Outlet, the use of large, costly line isolation transformers or PS Audio Power Plants were the only ways to reduce or eliminate common and differential mode noise. While these are still excellent choices for handling common mode noise, the Ultimate Outlet provides a first line of defense at attractive prices and a compact size. The Ultimate can also be thought of as a pre-conditioner to a PS Audio Power Plant, which regulates voltage, creates balanced power and eliminates flat-topping of the sine wave. Unlike most conditioners, the Ultimate Outlet doesn't add impedance to the AC. It also provides immunity from differential noise, which is generated by a home's appliances and other equipment, and from common mode noise, which is picked up from radiated sources, such as cell phones and computers. Best of all, the Ultimate Outlet is bi-directional, preventing noise from getting into your equipment as well as stopping the noises they generate from getting onto the line and affecting other components. Both models measure six by eight inches in size and three inches deep, making them small enough to be mounted on the wall next to or near a conventional outlet, or on the ceiling, next to a top-mounted video projector. The Ultimate Outlets are available now at suggested retail prices of $299 and $399 for the Standard and High-Current models, respectively. The Standard Outlet includes one specification-grade duplex socket, and the High-Current version includes one of PS Audio's high performance, hospital-grade Power Port receptacles. Each Outlet also includes a mounting plate and a three-foot power cord. For additional information, visit PS Audio's Web site at www.psaudio.com.
