DVDLabs announced the completion of two new, groundbreaking DVD-Audio titles, ""Celebrating the Music Of Weather Report,"" and ""Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture,"" both produced in conjunction with industry pioneer Telarc Records. Roger Talkov, Chief Engineer of DVDLabs, explains that these DVD-Audio discs contain not only high-resolution sound in both surround and stereo for playback in DVD-Audio players, but also a DVD-Video layer including, DTSÆ Digital Surroundô 5.1 surround and DolbyÆ Digital stereo for DVD-Video players. The discs also feature a full graphic user interface with interactive content, as well as Web links, MP3 files and custom calibration tones.Mastering the highly intricate DVD-Audio disc for ""Weather Report"" was accomplished in record time by the engineering team at DVDLabs. This disc, which includes performances by Hall of Fame members Victor Bailey and Omar Hakim, is the first DVD-Audio title to include five audio formats and an integrated Web link, taking the user to Telarc Records' Web site. ""The authoring process was very complex,"" explains Talkov. ""These discs require more than 80,000 lines of custom code and take over two hours simply to build a QA-ready proof. Even simple changes can become a real project if they're not picked up early on."" The new DVD-Audio disc for Telarc's landmark recording of the ""1812 Overture"" easily surpasses past recordings on other formats. The painstaking attention to detail of Telarc's production team was carried through to DVDLabs' exacting post-production work, where instead of the traditional 5.1 mix with LFE channel, a full-spectrum 6.0 mix with height channel was used to capture the intensity of the Overture's signature cannonade. (WARNING: Due to the superior audio resolution on this disc, caution should be used during initial playback since the cannon was recorded at very high levels.) As one of the most experienced engineers in the exploding DVD field, Talkov's abilities made DVDLabs the obvious choice to engineer these releases. ""We're honored and excited,"" says Talkov, ""to have been chosen to deliver these products to the market. With each new title produced, DVD-Audio ensures its place as the industry standard.""DVDLabs also continues its commitment to the best in DVD entertainment with the recent release of OhBoy Records' ""Sessions at West 54th Street featuring John Prine,"" mixed by the legendary George Massenburg.Located in the technology center of Cambridge, Massachusetts, DVDLabs is the premiere DVD service facility, with an extensive background in both high-end audio and DVD.
