Dynaudio introduced its first dedicated architectural model, the new IP 24 In-Wall Loudspeaker. For years, Dynaudio has been asked to provide an in-wall solution, assuming that the company's drivers could simply be mounted into an assembly and a product could be born. But that is not in tune with Dynaudio's qualitative philosophy, so rather than taking a simplified approach, that in all essence would undermine the inherent quality of the company's conventional application drivers, the Dynaudio's engineers spent an exhaustive amount of time, in research and development, to create new driver topologies, specifically for architectural applications, to produce the finest in-wall loudspeaker available. In order to achieve these goals, entirely new drivers would need to be developed, drivers capable of performing at a very high level of quality, in the severely compromised acoustic environment of an infinite baffle, wall-mount application -- drivers that wouldn't be compromised by the absence of, or necessarily be dependent upon an enclosure. Likewise, a mounting assembly, devoid of resonance would be critical in order to achieve a pristine result. Of equal importance, the end result would need to be unobtrusive visually, easy to install and built to last. Having remained committed to its R&D goals, the company has delivered its first architectural loudspeaker, the Dynaudio IP 24 In-Wall Loudspeaker, inasmuch establishing a whole new level of quality and performance previously unimaginable in this category. The IP 24 utilizes unique drivers designed specifically for the in-wall application: a new 8-3/4-inch (22.2 cm) woofer with a huge 3-inch (75 mm) aluminum wire voice coil is based on Dynaudio's own world-renowned, high performance home audio and professional studio monitors, and is the first of its type used in an in-wall design. The customized, high-tech 1.1-inch (28 mm) soft dome tweeter is a version derived from Dynaudio's esteemed Contour series loudspeaker range, and was developed with parameters specific to the in-wall application as well, thus enabling an accurate and balanced soundstage, with a level of musicality that is on par with that of Dynaudio's conventional application loudspeaker models. Technically, the IP 24 offers high power handling (150 watts RMS), and produces a wide frequency response (40 Hz - 23 kHz, +/-3 dB), with high sensitivity (90 dB @2.8V and 1 m), at a 4-ohm nominal (well-damped, linear and resistive) impedance. The IP 24 is an easy load to drive, and by design will mate perfectly to virtually any amplification device. The conventional in-wall products which most audio companies market usually require enclosures to enhance the bass performance, and most likely can not reproduce any low bass -- typically because they are using conventional driver technologies which are not at all suited to this application. In contrast, Dynaudio has developed custom-built drivers to achieve optimized performance in the given parameters of the in-wall mounting application (typically infinite baffle or free air), delivering crisp, clean highs, a naturally balanced midrange with incredibly deep bass performance and unlimited dynamics -- a sonic character that will instantly be recognized as that of a true Dynaudio. The IP 24 In-Wall incorporates an audiophile grade crossover, designed specifically to achieve a coherent performance, while eliminating the undesirable peaks and dips in frequency typically caused by the wall reflections. There is also an adjustable tweeter output level, which may be used to facilitate optimized system matching, as well as tuning to personal taste or preference. The IP 24 features a baffle crafted out of a 1/2-inch (14 mm) MDF (medium density fiberboard) material into which the drivers are mounted, thus reducing and resonance and eliminating any coloration. The outer mounting frame is constructed of die-cast aluminum -- the inherent properties of aluminum work to eliminate any adverse effects of distortions due to vibration-related resonance, while it also provides added strength and rigidity to the assembly at a relatively low weight. The frame is efficiently and securely coupled to the baffle, also aiding in the reduction of resonance. Dynaudio is currently the only company providing an in-wall solution at this level of quality and engineering. In typical Danish fashion, the Dynaudio IP 24 is built to last, and sets new standards in terms of ease of installation. It can be installed simply and quickly, without the need of any mounting rings or accessory brackets. Typically it is just a matter of one or two minutes to install, once the mounting hole has been cut into the drywall. The white steel mesh grille and aluminum frame may be painted as well, thus allowing complete flexibility for perfect integration into any particular room's color scheme or decor. The IP 24 is now available at a MSRP of $1,399 per pair.
