Applauding the announcement by NBC that its new primetime drama series, ""Crossing Jordan,"" will be broadcast in high-definition television (HDTV), the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) called the move a step in the right direction for the analog to digital television transition. At the same time, the association urged the network to continue to increase its HD offerings and meet the commitment to digital programming made by ABC and CBS, which both broadcast the majority of their primetime programming in HD. High-definition broadcasts enable digital television (DTV) consumers to view programs in the highest resolution possible and are part of the overall analog to digital television transition.""Clearly, we are encouraged by the announcement that Americans will be able to view this outstanding program in HDTV. NBC is beginning to recognize that HDTV is 'must see TV,'"" said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. ""The fact remains, however, that there still are far too few high-definition broadcasts available to consumers today. It will take more digital programming, preferably high-definition broadcasts, to realize a swift and successful DTV transition."" According to NBC, ""Crossing Jordan"" will be broadcast in high-definition beginning October 8. ""The Tonight Show"" is the other NBC program offered in high-definition.
