CEA Releases July Audio Sales Figures

9-Oct-01

According to figures released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), manufacturer-to-dealer sales of audio products reached $617.5 million in dollar sales during the month of July, a decline of ten percent compared to the same time last year. Additionally, year-to-date factory-to-dealer sales for audio products reached $2.9 billion, down less than six percent compared to the same period of 2000. Despite these overall declines, many products within the sub-categories enjoyed solid growth during July. Consumer interest in multichannel sound continued to show solid growth during July, with dollar sales for total surround sound packages up an impressive 194 percent to $11.2 million and an increased sales of home-theatre-in-a-box reaching $65.8 million, a gain of 99 percent. Likewise, sales of component speakers increased by 29 percent to $11.5 million in July. Sales of headset portable CD players also grew six percent to $13.6 million.
