David Diggs Releases Eklektrik On DVD

There is such quiet power to David Diggsí latest release Eklektrik; such good, mellow jazz that one might almost assume it was an effortless creation. Such an illusion can only result from a combination of talent, education, and experienceÖall being an integral part of David Diggsí musical history. Credited with bringing ëblue-eyed soulí to his music, this new release showcases his talent not only as an inspired jazz keyboardist but as a producer, composer, and arranger as well. This collection of contagious mainstream jazz features well-crafted arrangements with performances by an all-star group featuring Jimmy Haslip, Joey Heredia, Vinnie Coliauta, Brandon Fields, Doug Cameron, and Bobby Rodriguez. And as a very special guest, Davidís daughter rounds out the collaborative effort: an accomplished pianist, composer, and lyrists, Rachel Diggs joins her father on Eklektrik, adding vocal stylings that are hers alone. An impressive discography spanning 25 years including Realworld, Right Before Your Eyes, and Eye of the Storm, earned David ratings as top New Jazz Artist in both Cash Box and Billboard, with the critically acclaimed Streetshadows landing in the top ten on the Billboard jazz charts. Davidís unique styling and interpretation garnered several Grammy nominations and an impressive list of influences ranging from Michel Legrand to Bob James to Quincy Jones, David, with ever increasing expertise, has accumulated an impressive production portfolio, working on projects with George Duke, Richie Furay, The Modern Folk Quartet, and Sandi Patti, to name a few. Eklektrik, a June 2001 release on Silverline Records, will be Davidís first release in the DVD-Audio format, which features incredibly high-resolution audio in six-channel surround sound. David Diggsí Eklektrik, with its blends, both vocal and mixture of piano, strings, and synthesizers, is a stunning collection of jazz at its best. And so it seems no coincidence that influenced by sounds while traveling on a bus in Germany, ìThe Bus Songî is a featured video on the DVD release, with footage of buses and trains in both Germany and America. Keenly aware that Germerica would be released in DVD-Audio, David ìtook a lot of thought about the instrumentation on this recording because it was to be DVDÖI really wanted to explore this medium.î Germerica is scheduled for release in June 2002, exclusively from Silverline Records. DVD-Audio provides incredibly high-resolution audio in six-channel surround sound and is the next natural step in music enhancement.
