6-Mar-02

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., which offered in 2001 the DVD-V1000 DVD/VHS combo player, announced the introduction of two new DVD/VCR combo players, the DVD-V2000 and DVD-V2500. Both models feature a 4-head hi-fi VCR that includes a MTS/SAP stereo tuner and a 400x rewind speed. The DVD-V2500 adds 3:2 pull-down progressive-scan component video outputs, and is the first combo player to offer a Memory Stick port for direct playback of digital audio recordings or viewing of digital photos. Both new combos feature titanium-finished front panels. Samsung's advanced graphic user interface guides users through the host of functions, and both models are compatible with CD-R/RW discs for playback of MP3 and WMA music files. The Memory Stick function on the DVD-V2500 can also be used for multi-format music files. Consumers can view their digital still camera images by utilizing the Memory Stick interface or converting their digital images to CD. The DVD-V2500 also has the ability to playback Photo CDs. Claude Frank, Senior Marketing Manager for Digital Audio/Video, Samsung Electronics USA, Inc., said, ""Samsung was the first company to mass-market the DVD/VCR concept inspiring many manufacturers to follow in our footsteps. Consumers quickly appreciated the simplicity and flexibility of having two of the most used home entertainment products combined in a single unit. Now the DVD-V2000 and DVD-V2500 up the stakes with even more features and advanced technology that appeal to both first-time users and hardcore enthusiasts."" The DVD-V2000 and DVD-V2500 both offer a 4-head dual-azimuth record/playback system, which is enhanced by HQ and luminance noise reduction (YNR) circuitry, as well as a digital auto tracking system. Tapes rewind at 400-times playback speed, and the MTS/SAP stereo system can deliver DolbyÆ Surround from stereo videotapes and stereo broadcasts. For those with a library of S-VHS recordings, both models include SQPB that can playback these enhanced tapes at full VHS resolution. The composite video and analog audio outputs are shared by the DVD and VCR. Two sets of A/V inputs (front and rear) are also included for VCR recording or pass-through to the TV. S-video and component outputs provide DVD images. The universal remote includes a joystick control that allows users to glide through DVD menus or the player's own advanced graphic user interface with the tip of a single finger. The DVD-V2500 features a new front panel display, which combines a half mirror finish with blue backlighting. The DVD-V2000 will be available in March 2002, at an MSRP of $299.99, with the DVD-V2500 shipping the following month, retailing at $349.99.
