8-Mar-02

Samsung, an established DTV innovator, continues offer its SIR-T150 set-top box. The SIR-T150 is a universal solution for any digital television that employs DTV component video inputs. Frank Romeo, Director for Samsung's Digital Set-Top Box (STB) Group, stated, ""Reviewers have raved about the performance of the SIR-T150, particularly its superior lock-in on weak broadcast signals such as those found in the urban settings. As the 2006 FCC deadline for networks to offer digital broadcasting approaches, this tuner will evolve into other products and incorporate the latest technologies that will arise from the developing digital landscape."" Enabling any TV set to receive high quality DTV and HDTV programming, the SIR-T150 is claimed to have demonstrated a unique robustness in locking in the weakest signal transmissions. A signal strength meter assists in antenna placement, and easy integration to an analog set. The SIR-T150 outputs a 720p (progressive-scan) picture, and purportedly no perceivable artifacts when converting from 1080i. The set-top box offers control over aspect ratio while in 480p and 480i modes, allowing viewers to make screen size adjustments for a 16:9 picture on a 4:3 set and a 4:3 picture on a 16:9 set. The SIR-T150 is compatible with selectable 480i, 480p, 720p, or 1080i input. Output connections are likewise selectable: 15-pin D-sub or component video (YPbPr) connections. NTSC 480i output makes the unit compatible with devices featuring an S-video or standard composite video output. Additionally, when 480i is selected, the menu OSD is activated for connecting to an analog TV. Employing Samsung's silver finish front panel, a gray chassis design, and a universal ""I ñ Pointô"" remote, the SIR-T150 is currently available at an MSRP of $699 through most major retailers including Best Buy, PC Richards, J&R Music World, HH Greg, Ultimate Entertainment, Tweeter, and select Sears locations.
