Samsung Introduces 12 New HDTV Televisions And Monitors

8-Mar-02

Samsung announced a new line of 12 HDTV televisions and monitors designed to meet a variety of home user needs and preferences. Samsung's full range of new HDTV solutions includes nine widescreen models in the 42-, 47-, 54-, 55- and 65-inch screen sizes, as well as three 4:3 sets. Samsung's 42- and 47-inch models are housed in sleek, floor-standing cabinets that are compact, and as much as 30 percent lighter than a large-screen direct-view set. For home theatre enthusiasts who want the large-screen HDTV experience, there are 55- and 65-inch widescreen models, including integrated HDTV televisions in both screen sizes. Three 4:3 models round out the lineup, including two 54-inch models and a 62-inch HDTV monitor. Steve Panosian, Senior Marketing Manager, Visual Display Group, Samsung Electronics USA, Inc., said, ""The rapid acceptance of DVD players and the expansion of HDTV programming from broadcasters, satellite providers and cable operators has created strong demand for HDTV products at all price points. By offering such a wide range of solutions, Samsung now offers the ideal HDTV answer for the most elaborate home theatres or more compact applications where the sheer depth and weight of a larger set would be prohibitive. We anticipate that 2002 will be our most successful year in HDTV since launching the category."" Samsung's HDTV products incorporate the latest screen enhancements. Every model in the series utilizes Samsung's exclusive PerfectFocusô auto convergence system, which delivers a single-button solution for simpler focus adjustments over conventional projection. All models also include Samsung's RealFlectô System, a set of video enhancements that provide large-screen TVs with brighter, crisper images, heightened detail of moving images and text, and greater overall picture clarity. The top of the HDTV monitor line is the 55-inch HCM-5515W, which boasts an elegant cabinet design that includes a convenient shelf for the required external HDTV tuner or other video source components. The HCM-5515W and 47-inch models both employ Samsung's PerfectFocus system to optimize picture sharpness without complex manual adjustments. Powered by a two-channel, 30-watt audio system, these units can be connected to an external DolbyÆ Digital decoder through the connections available on the rear panel. Both models will be available in the second quarter of 2002, with the HCM-5515W set at an MSRP of $2,699, and the HCM-4715 at an MSRP of $2,199. Like its sibling HCM-4715, the compact 42-inch HCM-4215W is the solution when true widescreen performance is required and limited space is available. It boasts a 30-watt audio system, PerfectFocus auto convergence, and a full complement of connections for standard and HDTV sources. The HCM-4215 will be available in the second quarter at $1,999 MSRP. For consumers who prefer a 4:3 picture for traditional TV viewing, the 54-inch PCM-5415R and 62-inch PCM-6215R are offered. Both models include an auto gray bar solution that reduces potentially negative effects from extended viewing of letterbox sources. A full 30-watt audio system, PerfectFocus auto convergence, and a complete complement of connections are also included. The PCM-5415R, at $2,199 MSRP, and PCM6215R at $2,699 MSRP will be available in the fourth quarter of 2002. Samsung's top-of-the-line Tantus series is specifically targeted toward the most demanding consumers, and is exclusively distributed through the most qualified home theatre retailers and custom installation specialists. The flagships of this series are the 65-inch HCM-658W and 55-inch HCM-558W integrated 16:9 HDTV televisions. Both include a high performance HDTV tuner, as well as Samsung's exclusive ProChipô circuitry, which instantly upgrades all incoming video signals for display at the unit's 1080i mode. Both RealFlect technology and the PerfectFocus auto convergence system are included, while the 45-watt/three-channel audio system and integral Dolby Digital decoder provide surround sound support with the addition of two external speakers. Users can also make connections to an external Dolby Digital decoder. Both models will be available in the fourth quarter of 2002, with the HCM-658W at $4,499 MSRP, and the HCM-558W with an MSRP of $3,999. The Tantus series also includes the 65-inch HCM-653W and 55-inch HCM-553W, as well as the 42-inch HCM-422W and 47-inch HCM-473W HDTV monitors. The two smaller units are designed for more compact applications, trimming both weight and depth. The 65-inch HCM-653W and 55-inch HCM-553W sport new cabinet designs as well, with a convenient shelf for the required external HDTV tuner or other video source component. All four models offer Samsung's two-tuner, side-by-side PIP split-screen system, which takes advantage of the widescreen architecture to display two large images simultaneously, as well as traditional picture-in-picture display. A 3D Y/C comb filter, RealFlect system and PerfectFocus technology are also included. All Tantus HDTV models offer an advanced universal remote control and a translucent on-screen display. Powered by a 45-watt/three-channel Dolby Pro Logic audio system, the HCM-653W, HCM-553W, and HCM-473W HDTV monitors provide surround sound or they can be interfaced with additional rear speakers. The HCM-422W features a two-channel, 30-watt Dolby Pro Logic audio system. All four models will be delivered in the second quarter of 2002, with MSRPs of $3,499 for the HCM-655W, $2,999 for the HCM 553W, $2,399 for the HCM-473W, and the HCM-422 with an MSRP of $2,199. The Tantus 54-inch PCM-545R is a 4:3 unit with a 30-watt Dolby Pro Logic sound system, and the RealFlect and PerfectFocus systems. The PCM-545R also employs the auto gray bar circuitry to minimize uneven screen aging. The unit also features a split-screen PIP system. The PCM-545R will be available in the fourth quarter of 2002 at a MSRP of $2,399. For more information about Samsung Electronics USA, Inc., visit www.samsungusa.com.
