Kenwood Products First To Feature SRS Labs Circle Surround II 6.1 Audio

SRS Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ: SRSL), a leading provider of innovative audio, voice, and ASIC technology solutions, announced the commercial availability of its Circle Surround IIô (CS II) 6.1 audio decoding technology in a new line of audio/video receivers from longtime SRS Labs licensee, Kenwood USA Corporation. Incorporating CS II technology featuring patented SRS Labs' Dialog ClarityÆ and TruBassÆ audio technologies are Kenwood's new VR-6070, VR-6060, and VR-6050 audio/video receivers. Under the terms of the agreement, SRS Labs will receive a per-unit license fee for receiver models that are shipped with the CS II technology, and the company expects to begin receiving revenue from this agreement beginning in the third quarter of 2002. For playback, CS II decoding is said to bridge the gap between older mono, stereo, and surround-encoded content, and new multi-speaker home theatre systems, by delivering up to 6.1 channels of surround sound from all such sources. SRS Dialog Clarity is designed to enable the listener to more easily and clearly discern actors' dialog from the rest of the soundtrack. TruBass technology creates the sensation of deep, rich bass over the front channels and subwoofer through monitoring the original program for low frequency audio. The Kenwood receivers implement CS II technology using the new MelodyÆ 32 digital audio processor from Analog Devices.
