5-Jul-02

Toshiba America Consumer Products, Inc. has introduced its DST-3100 second-generation DIRECTVÆ HD digital satellite receiver. The DST-3100 incorporates DVI (Digital Visual Interface) technology, along with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Copy Protection). The DST-3100 features the versatility of several output resolution modes, and offers a multi-room viewing solution. The sleek silver cabinet complements the cosmetics of Toshiba's new HDTV-compatible TV line. The DST-3100 features built-in NTSC and ATSC reception, along with multiple output resolution modes (480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i). There is also a Hybrid Mode that will automatically convert an incoming digital signal to either 480p or 1080i output resolution. The DST-3100 includes an optical digital audio output jack (Toslink) for DolbyÆ Digital multichannel sound, ColorStreamÆ HD component video output, and two sets of A/V composite video output jacks. ""The inclusion of DVI with HDCP in this new DIRECTV satellite receiver is a clear indication of Toshiba's support for high-definition digital programming and our eagerness for more programming to come,"" noted Yoshi Uchiyama, Vice President, Strategic Business Development of Toshiba. ""Because the digital signal is uncompressed through the DVI interface, the DST-3100 is able to guarantee maximum signal purity of the video source at all times, providing the highest quality, film-like digital images. And by adding 720p output resolution, as well as our new Hybrid output resolution modes, we're ensuring that consumers can take advantage of the maximum video capabilities of their DIRECTV system."" The Toshiba DST-3100 can be connected to multiple TV sets in the house via the DVI/HDCP output terminal, the ColorStream YPbPr output, and the S-Video jack. The newly designed remote control incorporates both IR (infrared) and RF (radio frequency) capabilities, and supports two separate TV remote codes. There is an icon-based GUI (graphical user interface) to provide navigation of functions and features. Users have the flexibility of customizing their on-screen menu and operating system with up to four separate settings. Among the functions viewers can customize are: Color Scheme for the on-screen menu, Favorite Channels, Audio Language, and Parental Rating Restrictions. The Advanced Program Guideô integrates programming information and provides a single listing of all available TV programming, including DIRECTV programming, terrestrial, and cable broadcasts. Furthermore, a built-in search engine allows viewers to locate desired programs by entering a title, category, actor's name, or keyword. The Toshiba DST-3100 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2002 at a suggested retail price of $799. For more information about Toshiba America Consumer Products, Inc., visit www.tacp.com.
