Toshiba Introduces Two New Widescreen Plasma Displays With HD Resolution, Plus 15-Inch LCD TV

Toshiba has introduced of two new HDTV-compatible widescreen plasma displays, the 50-inch 50HP82 and the 42-inch 42HP82, both offering true 720p resolution. Toshiba also introduced its first-ever LCD display, the 15-inch 15DL72. Noted Scott Ramirez, Toshiba's Vice President of Marketing: ""Toshiba is well-known as a leader in both SuperTUBE and projection TV technologies. The introduction of our two new plasma displays clearly shows that we are also a leader in new flat-panel technologies as well. We intend to continue leading the plasma category with products that deliver the ultimate in 'no compromise' image quality and design, including additional plasma display models, LCD models, as well as upcoming products based on both OLED and SED technologies."" The 50HP82 utilizes a 1365 x 768 pixel array and has a rated brightness of 352 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1200:1. The 42HP82 utilizes a 1024 x 768 pixel array, with brightness of 300 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of over 1000:1. The plasma panels feature newly designed RGB (red, green, and blue) filters embedded within the front glass. Both sets also feature Toshiba's Blackstripe technology, providing improved contrast with less reflection from ambient light sources, as well as 160-degree viewing angle capability. Both the 50HP82 and the 42HP82 feature DVI input terminals with HDCP copy protection. The 15-inch 15DL72 LCD display can either be placed on a table, or mounted on the wall. It features a newly designed, low-reflection black TFT LCD panel. Brightness level is claimed to be 400 cd/m2. The Toshiba 50HP82 and 42HP82 plasma display monitors will be available in the third quarter of 2002 at suggested retail prices of $13,999 and $8,499, respectively.
