Toshiba Unveils New Line Of Advanced Direct-View And Projection TVs For 2002

Toshiba's color TV lineup for 2002 ranges from analog TVs to a tenth anniversary line of Cinema Series TVs featuring the 57-inch LCoS projection set. The new lineup includes 20 HDTV-compatible sets; 13 widescreen (16:9) models, with an expanded selection of FST Pure ""Purely Flat"" sets; more widescreen (16:9) TVs; two high-performance plasma displays; and the company's first LCD set. Toshiba's new line of non-flat color TV sets ranges from 13-inch portables to 36-inch SuperTUBEô sets, with double-baffle silver cabinetry on select 20-inch and larger models. In analog projection TV, Toshiba is introducing models in screen sizes ranging from 43 to 61 inches, all with a newly designed PowerFocusô HD CRT. Toshiba lineup of its ""Purely Flat"" FST Pure direct-view color TVs includes 17 models (including six HDTV-compatible sets and two new widescreen 34-inch models with DVI/HDCP interface.) All new Toshiba HDTV-compatible TVs feature the company's IDSCô (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) technology. Many new Toshiba projection HD sets feature the company's latest generation IDSC Pro (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) technology, which now accepts HDTV 720p images, automatically converting 720p to 1080i images, and automatically passes through 1080i images. IDSC Pro technology also converts all 480i and 480p signals to 540p. Toshiba's Cinema Series line is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2002, and the company has created an anniversary Cinema Series color TV line, featuring 15 models, including nine HDTV-compatible sets and six widescreen models with DVI/HDCP interface. Toshiba's new 57-inch Cinema Series LCoS-based projection TV, the 57HLX82, with DVI/HDCP interface uses Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) technology to provide full 1080p resolution. The projection set, measuring 17 inches deep, utilizes three 1920 x 1080 LCoS microchips (red, green, and blue), a 0.1mm pitch screen, Toshiba's new HID (High Intensity Discharge) 8000-hour lamp, and a variety of advanced digital optical technologies. Toshiba is also demonstrating its commitment to flat panel display technologies in 2002 with the introduction of two new high-performance HDTV-compatible widescreen plasma displays, the 50-inch 50HP82 and the 42-inch 42HP82, both offering true 720p resolution. Toshiba is also introducing its first-ever LCD display, the 15-inch 15DL72 -- the first in a family of high-performance LCD sets planned for introduction in the near future.
