Report Says Seven Out Of Ten TV Owners Ready To Buy A New And Larger TV

12-Jul-02

TFCinfo LLC, a worldwide leader in A/V market research, and Quixel Research LLC, a market intelligence company focused on home theatre and home entertainment display markets, have recently published a new report called ""Home Entertainment Survey 2002 -- Preferences Between Front Projectors, Plasma, And Rear Projection TV In The US."" Good news for large display manufacturers: 71.7 percent of consumers surveyed would like to have a screen size larger than 40 inches, but only 18.7 percent of those surveyed currently have a TV over 42 inches. What consumers are willing to pay is the ultimate question. Plasma Major differences are seen for plasma price expectations between the consumers and prosumers (high-end professional consumers) surveyed. Fifty percent of prosumers stated they would buy a plasma display if the price were $4,999 or lower, while the price would have to drop to $2,999 for 50 percent of consumers to consider buying. Front Projectors Consumers and prosumers also exhibited different price expectations for front projectors -- 44.2 percent of prosumers surveyed would consider buying a projector over $2,000, whereas only 26.9 percent of consumers would consider at this price point. Lowering projector prices below $1,999 would bring in many new consumers. Rear-Projection TV Price sensitivities are similar among both prosumers and consumers for rear projection TV -- 78 percent of consumers and 64 percent of prosumers would buy if priced below $1,000. It would be unusual to see big differences here, as there are a multitude of product offerings and prices are already within consumers' budgets. This complete study series is broken down into two independent sections; ""Consumer Electronic Retail 2002,"" which was conducted at Best Buy, and ""Prosumer Retail 2002,"" which was conducted at high-end home entertainment stores Harvey's and Magnolia HiFi.
