MartinLogan Offers Limited Edition CLS IIz Full-Range Electrostatic Loudspeaker

18-Jul-02

MartinLoganÆ has announced a limited edition of their CLSô loudspeaker system, in honor of the company's 20th anniversary. First manufactured in 1986, the CLS is MartinLogan's second loudspeaker design to apply the patented curvilinear line source (CLS) electrostatic technology. ""In the 80s I dreamt of a full-range curvilinear electrostatic transducer using our uniquely precise electrostatic technology. After perfecting our first ESL transducer this dream consumed three years of additional research to assure a worthy product,"" stated Gayle Sanders, President and founder of MartinLogan. ""That product became the CLS and held industry reference class status for the past 17 years as the most holographic revealer of inner detail on the planet."" The current iteration of the CLS, the CLS IIz, remains nearly identical to the first unit to roll off the production line in 1986. Major revisions of the IIz series CLS include refined crossover topologies, improved electrostatic panel construction, impedance stability, and advancements in power supply design over the original CLS. To pay homage to CLS' 17-year production run -- ending December 31, 2002 -- MartinLogan is issuing a limited edition CLS IIz. A special plaque commemorating MartinLogan's 20th anniversary will identify each limited edition CLS IIz. The handcrafted CLS IIz, available in a variety of hand-finished hardwood options, comes standard with proprietary MartinLogan ETC spikes. The retail price is $5,995 per pair. The CLS IIz is rated between 35 Hz and 20 kHz, +/-3 dB. It measures (in WHD inches) 28 ? 57-1/2 x 14-1/2 and weighs 85 pounds.
