According to figures released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), June 2002 digital television (DTV) factory-to-dealer sales figures totaled 169,272 units and dollar sales of $294,404,457, which represents an 86 percent unit sales increase and an 85 percent dollar sales increase, compared to June 2001. DTV products include integrated sets and monitors displaying active vertical scanning lines of at least 480p and, in the case of integrated sets, receiving and decoding ATSC terrestrial digital transmissions. The June data rounds out a stellar first half of the year. DTV unit sales now total 874,919, besting 2001 by 89 percent. DTV dollar sales from January through June 2002 reached $1,521,113,715 -- a 75 percent increase compared to the same period in 2001. ""We are now past the three million-unit mark in terms of DTV product sales since introduction,"" said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. ""This is a tremendous win for consumers and for the DTV marketplace. Americans are enjoying the wide variety of DTV products available in stores. With $1.5 billion sold in the first six months of this year alone, we continue to see the consumer electronics industry's commitment to DTV recognized and applauded by the most important player in the analog to digital transition -- the American consumer."" CEA projects that 2.1 million DTV products -- including integrated sets and displays -- will be sold in 2002, 4 million in 2003, 5.4 million in 2004, 8 million in 2005, and 10.5 million in 2006.
