Silicon Image, Inc. announced that Hitachi America, Ltd. will incorporate the SiIô 907Bô PanelLinkÆ Digital TV (DTV) controller in ten new high-definition (HD) projection televisions from its 2002 lineup. The SiI 907B will provide Digital Visual Interface (DVI) input with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) for Hitachi's new UltraVision DigitalÆ XWX, SWX, and UWX series projection televisions, as well as Hitachi's HDT series plasma televisions. ""Our new digital projection television line echoes our commitment to the best possible picture and overall product quality,"" stated Bill Whalen, Senior Product Manager for Hitachi America Ltd., Home Electronics Division. ""One of the important new features we've added for 2002 is DVI-HDCP, which brings the highest quality digital video to the DTV while also supporting future premium services from cable and satellite providers. We chose Silicon Image because they lead the market in reliable, high-performance DVI solutions and are driving the DVI-HDCP and HDMI initiatives by providing the underlying coreTMDSÆ technology."" The SiI 907B features an integrated, full-bandwidth PanelLink DVI receiver and a 165 MHz triple 10-bit video DAC. Silicon Image Product Marketing Manager Rob Frizzell noted, ""Digital signals are cleaner, with more accurate detail and color. Keeping these signals in their native digital format during the journey from the set-top box to the DTV is the only way to prevent them from degrading. This is even more critical with newer digital display technologies."" Frizzell added, ""DTV manufacturers also want to future-proof their offerings and enable consumers to take advantage of new services such as premium HD movies when they become available. DVI-HDCP is rapidly being added across DTV product lineups, and we are encouraged by the strong customer interest in our DVI-HDCP solutions. Seven leading manufacturers have announced DTVs enabled with DVI-HDCP, and we have DVI-HDCP wins at five of them."" Hitachi's 1080i 16:9 HDTV XWX ""Director's Seriesô"" sets the lead in Hitachi's new projection television lineup. The sleek 65-, 57-, and 51-inch integrated sets feature Hitachi's top-of-the-line digital chassis and have a high-gloss black cabinet with built-in ATSC terrestrial and cable HDTV tuners. Other features include Hitachi's new hybrid wide-neck CRTs, Super Contrast five-element lens system and high-contrast 0.52mm fine-pitch screen. The SWX series HDTV monitors come in 65-, 57- and 51-inch models and also feature Hitachi's wide-neck CRTs, Super Contrast five-element lens system, and high-contrast 0.52mm fine-pitch screen. Hitachi's UWX 16:9 HDTV Monitor series is improved in 2002 with screen sizes of 57 and 51 inches, and features Super Contrast five-element lenses and High Brightness CRTs. In addition, Hitachi's new plasma televisions, the 42- and 32-inch HDT series, feature the ALiS technology. All ten models feature PanelLink SiI 907B DVI-HDCP DTV controllers. DVI-HDCP is the precursor to the new High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) specification being developed by Silicon Image and six leading consumer electronics manufacturers, including Hitachi, Ltd. HDMI builds upon the success of DVI, offering new features while maintaining full backward compatibility. TMDS, the key technology underlying DVI, will also serve as the basis for the new HDMI specification.
