Sony Electronics is continuing to broaden its line of Hi-ScanÆ 1080iô rear-projection televisions with the introduction of a 46-inch widescreen model. Sony's first 46-inch rear-projection television is the new KP-46WT500 model, featuring a unique, thin bezel tabletop design. The new TV is equipped with many of the high-performance features available on Sony's WS- and WV-series models, including the Hi-Scan 1080iô chassis, an integrated Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection, DRCô MultiFunction circuitry, an HD MicroFocusô CRT, HD Detailerô wideband video amp, MIDô-X circuitry, and SRS TruSurroundô sound. ""Sony now offers the widest variety of 16:9 rear projection televisions in the industry,"" said Tim Alessi, Director of Marketing for Sony Electronics' Visual Network Products Division. ""The new KP-46WT500 model is the most compact widescreen size among our rear-projection sets, yet it still packs the same punch with innovative performance-enhancing features that result in brilliant images and a rich home theatre experience."" The KP-46WT500 model incorporates a Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection that enables copy-protected, high-definition video content to be delivered to the TV from a DVI/HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)-compatible set-top box. The KP-46WT500 features a number of proprietary features found in other models in Sony's 2002 rear-projection line, including: - HD MicroFocus CRT, said to have a 30 percent smaller spot size than conventional CRTs, resulting in a brighter and sharper image - HD MicroFocus lens system, claimed to provide for clearer focus The new model also includes such features as Digital Reality Creation (DRC) MultiFunction circuitry, CineMotionô reverse 3:2 pulldown circuitry, Multi-Image Driver(MID)-X with Scrolling Channel Indexô system, and Flexible Twin-Viewô two-tuner picture-and-picture. In addition the KP-46HT500 features two HD component video inputs (YPbPr). The new 46-inch model joins Sony's Hi-Scan rear-projection lineup, which includes the HS-, WS- and WV-series models in 51- to 65-inch screen sizes, and will be available in November for about $1,900.
