18-Sep-02

Enrique Iglesias is no slacker. On the day of release of Quizas, his first album of all-Spanish material in five years, and just days (and rave reviews) into his North American tour, superstar Enrique Iglesias isnít exactly kicking back. With his single Mentiroso at #1 at the top of the Billboard hot Latin tracks for two weeks in a row (nobody has had more # 1s than Enrique) Heís been busy. In the last few weeks, he was at the MTVís Video Music Awards, he performed in front of the thousands of fans gathered in New Yorkís Time Square for the NFLís official kick-off to their 83rd season. He performed at the charity All-Star Concert in Chicago for the kick-off to World Childrenís Day and he is giving the high energy, all out performance that his adoring fans have come to expect night after night on his tour, which boasts one of the hottest tickets of the fall. Today he is in Toronto. The top-of-the-line production and Enriqueís performance is matched only by the over-the-top response of his fans. ìThe screams rarely waned,î said one reporter about the opening show. ìIglesiasís taut, toned physique cast an elegant shadow and a tantalizing promise for the audience of screaming girls, prepped to go nuts over every move or pause in the perfectly paced set,î wrote the Boston Herald. ìCharisma to burn,î said another reporter. The show concentrates on Iglesiasís hugely successful English repertoire but features a special selection of his Spanish language songs. Itís all a prelude to the release tomorrow of Quiz?s (Maybe), which finds the charismatic performer in fine form with his ability to write and produce the coolest, hippest and most romantic pop in the Spanish language ìThe power of music in Spanish is so strong, ìexplained Iglesias, ìthat I couldnít stay away from it any longerî Quiz?s features Iglesias at his best, performing the rhythmic, and warmly romantic pop inflected tracks that earned him album sales in excess of 30 million, 14 #1 singles, a Grammy, two American Music Awards, and eight Premios Lo Nuestro. . Last week he received nominations for three MTV Video Music Awards Latin America: Video of the Year, Best Pop Artist of the Year and Best Male Artist of the Year. The new album was produced by Enrique Iglesias, Lester Mendez and Rafael Per»z Botija. Iglesias wrote or co-wrote every track but one and recorded Quiz?s while in the middle of a hectic, worldwide promotion schedule for the tremendously successful ESCAPE album, his 2001 multi-platinum release which has sold over 8 million copies worldwide and produced 3 hit singles. Quizas features ìMentirosoî (Liar), the first smash single from the album, and some of Iglesiasís most romantic ballads ever, about love, including ìTres Palabrasî (Three Words), where ìThere is not minute that I donít think about youî ìand love lost, such as ìPara Que La Vidaî (Why Thereís Life) in which Iglesias nurtures a broken heart and counts the hours that his love left him; ìFifteen days and six hours have passed,î he sings. But thereís also music to groove to, such as the mid-tempo ìLa Chica de Ayerî (The Girl from Yesterday) and the sexy and danceable ìMamacitaî. There is something for every fan on this record, which is just what Iglesias planned. ìI canít say enough about my fans. They have been with me almost seven years, since I started, and I feel they have grown with me every album I release. They are loyal and I love it.î
