DTS announced that the upcoming release of Queen's ""Greatest Video Hits 1"" will be the first major DVD-Video to feature a DTSÆ 96/24 high-resolution soundtrack.Developed by Queen Productions, Ltd. and EMI, Queen's ""Greatest Video Hits 1"" features 16 of the band's most celebrated videos including ""Bohemian Rhapsody,"" ""Somebody to Love,"" and ""Crazy Little Thing Called Love."" The title is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on October 7 and in the United States October 14.The newest generation of DVD players and A/V receivers can decode a high-resolution 96/24 soundtrack, in addition to the core 5.1 channels. In comparison to standard stereo CDs which deliver sound at a 44.1 kHz sampling rate and 16 bits, DTS 96/24 provides 96 kHz audio at up to 24 bits. Greater bit depth provides extended dynamic range, while higher sampling rates allow wider frequency response. DTS 96/24 is achieved by combining any DVD-Video player with a DTS 96/24-equipped receiver. Additionally, DTS 96/24-encoded software is always backwards compatible with older DTS-capable receivers by playing the material in standard 48 kHz/24-bit resolution.""The availability of DTS 96/24 on Queen's 'Greatest Video Hits 1' raises the bar in what consumers can expect in audio quality on DVD-Video titles,"" said Jeff Briller, Director of Business Development, Content (U.S.) at DTS. ""A DTS 96/24 soundtrack offers sound clarity that is amazing--the smallest details are present. Once people experience the difference that 96/24 has to offer, demand for high-resolution DTS options on DVD-V titles will certainly grow.""
