PSB Speakers celebrated their 30th anniversary during CEDIA EXPO 2002. Thirty years ago, violinist/engineer Paul Barton discovered that even the best speakers of the day failed the simple test of his musician's ear; unable to reconcile the live music he performed with recorded playback. Barton set out to create something better: more musically transparent, dynamically honest, and true to the original sound. The task turned out to be a little more challenging than Barton had first imagined. Founded by Paul Barton, the company released its first commercial product, the Avante, a two-way, 8-inch speaker in 1972. PSB has grown a thousand-fold in the ensuing decades, and the results speak for themselves. Sold in over 25 countries, today's PSB family of speakers is admired for their value, technical excellence, and musically faithful performance under real-world conditions. In 1974, Paul Barton became the first commercial speaker designer to exploit the unique acoustical facilities of Canada's National Research Council (NRC) in Ottawa. This sprawling technical campus, operated by the Canadian government, provides a broad array of scientific resources, including one of the world's premier acoustical test and measurement laboratories. Superior performance with a high value has always been the cornerstone of PSB's philosophy. The basic underlying principal behind all PSB speakers is how close to the ""ideal"" sound can be achieved at any given price point. This simplicity in purpose is why PSB Speakers has been a critical and commercial success story. The secret of PSB's success is not a tale of exotic materials or technical breakthroughs--though either of these would have been far easier to achieve. Instead, it is one of long-term, determined rigorous work and study. PSB Speakers has grown to become a major brand. PSB Speakers of America is a division of Lenbrook America, responsible for PSB, NAD and Aegis Systems distribution in all the Americas. For more information about PSB, visit www.psbspeakers.com.
