Zenith Offers New Digital Display Solutions

Zenith Electronics Corporation showcased a broad array of DTV products--including new digital set-top boxes, LCD monitors, and plasma displays at CEDIA EXPO 2002. Zenith introduced its latest DirecTVÆ HD/advanced HDTV receiver (HDSAT520), a new 15.1-inch LCD HDTV monitor (L15V24S), and a new 37-inch plasma display panel (P37W24). Additional CEDIA EXPO highlights from Zenith's 2002 product line include the new 50-inch widescreen plasma HDTV monitor, 60- and 52-inch widescreen LCD rear-projection HDTV monitors, a new 30-inch LCD HDTV monitor, and a 34-inch direct-view widescreen integrated HDTV. The HDSAT520 DirecTV HD/advanced HDTV receiver incorporates fourth-generation 8VSB reception technology, and has a suggested price of $799. A new ATSC-only digital HDTV receiver, model HDV420, carries a suggested price of $399. Zenith's new L15V24S LCD HDTV/PC monitor features a 15.1-inch screen, and an RS-232C port for serial communication. The monitor has a built-in NTSC tuner, a 350:1 contrast ratio, peak brightness of 450 cd/ m2, and 150 x 125-degree viewing angles. The RS-232C port enhances the versatility of connections, making the set fully compatible with both digital and video sources, as well as computers. The L15V24S has a suggested price of $1,299. Shown for the first time at CEDIA EXPO 2002 was the P37W24 plasma EDTV (enhanced-definition television) monitor. The 37-inch widescreen display delivers native 852 x 480 resolution. Features include Intelligent Image Scalingô, built-in aspect ratio correction, and RS-232C controls. The P37W24's price is to be announced. Zenith also exhibited its P50W26 50-inch plasma HDTV monitor, featuring 1366 x 768 native resolution. Contrast ratio is rated at 600:1, and peak brightness at 620 cd/m2. Features include Faroudja DCDiô deinterlacing, Intelligent Image Scaling, and built-in aspect ratio correction. The P50W26 is available at a suggested price of $9,499. The new 37- and 50-inch PDPs join Zenith's 60-, 42- and 40-inch models. Also demonstrated at CEDIA were two widescreen rear-projection LCD HDTV monitors, the 60-inch D60WLCD and 52-inch D52WLCD. Integrated with dual NTSC tuners, both monitors accept HDTV, standard-definition, and NTSC video sources. Three internal LCD panels, augmented by a nine-element lens systems, deliver 1280 x 720 native resolution, with a peak brightness of 680 cd/m2, 100 x 30-degree viewing angles, and picture-in-picture, picture-outside-picture, and split-screen. The D60WLCD has a suggested price of $4,999 and the D52WLCD has a suggested price of $3,999. Zenith's new L30W26 LCD HDTV/PC monitor boasts a 30-inch HD-capable widescreen display. Its has a 1280 x 768 WXGA native resolution, with a 400:1 contrast ratio, peak brightness of 450 cd/m2, and 170 x 170-degree viewing angles. The L30W26, has a suggested price of $5,999. Rounding out Zenith's CEDIA EXPO exhibit were new integrated HDTVs. The C34W23 is a widescreen display, featuring fourth-generation 8VSB technology. An internal ATSC tuner receives and decodes full HDTV broadcasts. The display features a 34-inch flat, fine-pitch picture tube, an internal line doubler, and built-in aspect ratio control.
