Snell Acoustics introduced the AMC 760 and AMC720 in-wall speakers, along with the AMC 680, an in-ceiling model, at CEDIA EXPO 2002.Snell has fully enclosed the AMC 760 and AMC 720 inside an aluminum enclosure to control bass response and reduce distortion. The same driver components that are used in Snell's in-cabinet speakers are mounted on a multi-layer, damped baffle. Both the AMC 760 and AMC 720 feature the Directed Power tweeter, which steers upper frequencies toward the listening area. The Directed Power tweeter is a 1-inch aluminum dome, mounted behind a wide-angle waveguide, molded at a fixed 20-degree angle. The entire wave guide can be removed and rotated at 45-degree increments, to appropriately aim the sound energy. For stereo (or main left/right in a surround system), the tweeter has a natural tilt-in toward the listener. For surround and center channel placement, the tweeter may be adjusted depending on how the speaker is installed in relation to the screen, or its desired effect (diffuse versus direct). The AMC 760, with a 6.5-inch woofer, and the AMC 720, which uses a 5.25-inch driver, are replacing the AMC 700. The AMC 680 is a new, 8-inch, open-backed, ceiling coax in-wall speaker, also utilizing Snell's Directed Power tweeter. Low-resonance, non-plastic materials are used to reduce coloration in all models. All Snell speakers are hand-built and tuned to within 0.5 dB of the reference master unit at their factory in Haverhill, Massachusetts. The AMC 760 retails for $1,800 per pair and the AMC 720 sells for $1,500 per pair. The AMC 680 has an MSRP of $800 per pair. For more information, visit www.snellacoustics.com.
