Onkyo has introduced the TX-SR800 THXÆ Select A/V receiver, with 7 x 100 watts into 8 ohms, and digital processing for every major multichannel format currently in use, including THX Surround EXÆ, DolbyÆ Digital EX, DTS-ESÆ, and DTSÆ 96/24. Its features include 192 kHz/24-bit DACs, HD-capable component video switching, and powered Zone 2 ability. The Onkyo TX-SR800's A-Form Listening Mode memory selects proper operating modes according to speaker setup and sources. The receiver has connections for six audio/video and three audio source components, including Phono, CD, and Tape Loop. There are four optical and three coaxial digital inputs, six of which are assignable, and a 7.1 multichannel input. There are line-level preamp outputs for all eight channels, including two back surrounds and a subwoofer. On the video side, there are S-video and composite inputs for all six video sources, plus two assignable component video inputs. A component video output, three S-video outputs, and three composite video outputs round out the TX-SR800's video connectivity. The video circuitry includes composite-to-S-video conversion, and 50 MHz professional grade component video switching for excellent performance with HDTV systems. The Onkyo TX-SR800 has 192 kHz/24-bit DACs for the 5.1 channels. The dual 24-bit DSP processors use a non-scaling configuration. Onkyo's Optimum Gain Volume Control is designed to keep low-level signals above the noise floor. Pure Audio Mode disables video circuitry to prevent any interference or power consumption from affecting reproduction of audio sources.Like all Onkyo receivers, the TX-SR800 uses the company's WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) for flat power response from 10 to 100,000 Hz. All seven amplifier channels are rated at 100 watts per channel into an 8-ohm load, or 130 watts per channel into a 6-ohm load. The receiver has a large heavy-duty transformer with low ESR, high-density filter capacitors. The amplifier topology provides for a low-impedance ground path and low negative feedback. The TX-SR800 is designed for two-zone use with preamplifier outputs for multi-room, multi-source operation and has dual-zone infrared remote inputs, an assignable 12 V trigger, and stereo speaker outputs for a second zone. Additionally, with powered Zone 2, the rear surround channel amplifiers can be configured to power a set of stereo speakers in another room. The backlit learning remote control has macro functions, and is preprogrammed with codes for hundreds of home theater components from nearly every manufacturer. It can even 'learn' complex functions from existing remotes. The receiver has a black, anodized aluminum front panel and heavy duty steel chassis. The Onkyo TX-SR800 has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,000. For more information, visit www.onkyousa.com.
