NHL And HDNet Announce 2002-03 HDTV Schedule

The National Hockey League and HDNet announced the initial slate of NHL in HD broadcasts as part of a the 65-game high-definition television (HDTV) 2002-03 schedule. The NHL in HD coverage on HDNet begins Sunday, October 27 at 9pm (Eastern Time), with the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Minnesota Wild. ""Fans who watched last year's NHL games on HDNet have confirmed that HDTV captures all the excitement of NHL action,"" said Jon Litner, NHL Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. ""We are excited to renew our agreement with the NHL,"" said Mark Cuban, co-founder and President of HDNet. ""Our partnership provides great programming for HDNet viewers and positions both the NHL and HDNet as leaders in high-definition sports."" HDNet's coverage of NHL during the 2001-02 season led many hockey fans to make the switch to HDTV, including Jim May of Lawrenceville, Georgia. ""One of the main reasons I purchased my HDTV system was to watch NHL hockey on HDNet,"" said May. ""Now I can see the plays as they develop, with the crystal-clear picture and widescreen view that you can only get with high-definition TV."" HDNet produces its NHL in HD broadcasts in conjunction with several Fox Sports Net (FSN) regional outlets, sharing audio and graphics with FSN's standard-definition production units.
