Boston Acoustics Introduces Three-Way In-Ceiling Speaker System

11-Nov-02

Boston Acoustics, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOSA) has launched a new, three-way in-ceiling speaker system as its latest addition to the company's VRiô family of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Called the VRi595, the new speaker system is priced at $800. The VRi595 speaker system features an 8-inch cast DCDô (Deep Channel Designô) copolymer woofer, a cast 3-1/2-inch neodymium midrange driver, and a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter that employs Boston's Amplitude Modification Deviceô (AMDô), a patented acoustical tuning device that helps to smooth high-frequency response. This three-way system positions each of the drivers in such a way as to occupy a 9-inch diameter in its baffle. The system also includes a boundary compensation switch to correct for wall/ceiling corners or other reflective spots. ""The 595 was engineered specifically for home theatre use in an L-C-R [left-center-right] configuration, an application not often associated with an in-ceiling speaker, but one that the 595 is perfectly suited for "" said Chris Fontes, Boston Acoustics' Director of Marketing Communications. Fontes added, ""When mounted directly in front of the screen, the VRi595's baffle can be rotated so that the sonic image is directed toward the audience. The sound appears to come from the screen itself."" Crafted with an aluminum grille and white trim, the VRi595 is a cosmetic match to other speakers in Boston's Designer in-wall/in-ceiling family. Fontes noted that any VRi595 hidden theatre system may be completed with similar in-ceiling speakers as surrounds, including the 8-inch/two-way VRi585 and 6-inch/two-way VRi565.
