Boston Acoustics Expands Speaker Offerings With BT Series

11-Nov-02

Boston Acoustics, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOSA) introduced its BT line of home theatre speakers. The BT1 ($1,000) and BT2 ($1,800) are left/center/right units, and the BT1200 ($1,400) is a subwoofer. ""The BTs and complementary subwoofer are testament to the commitment Boston Acoustics has to providing audio solutions for any environment and every level of audio enthusiast,"" said David Kroll, Director of Boston Acoustics' Custom Group. ""Reflective of the design of this product, the BT buyer is, without question, in the market for an 'no compromise' home theatre package."" ""The parametric EQ built into the BT1200 makes it very easy to optimize bass response in a wide variety of locations,"" said Kroll. ""This feature also helps to eliminate 'standing waves.'"" Both the BT1 and BT2 speakers and the BT1200 subwoofer are designed for installing inside custom-built or pre-built A/V cabinetry, or inside a theatre stage. Included with each of the BT models are ergonomic features to help simplify installation, including die-cast ""finger pulls,"" positioned at the front of each speaker; supplied neoprene pads to prevent scratching and allow for smooth slide-in positioning of the speaker; recessed cable input terminals are recessed; and front-mounted controls for the BT subwoofer. ""One of the most useful features of the BT1 and BT2 is the rotating baffle,"" said Kroll. ""Taken from the same technology used in our top-of-the-line VRi593 in-wall speakers, the BT1 and BT2's MT [midrange-tweeter] baffle has the ability to rotate 90 degrees for horizontal or vertical placement in cabinetry, maintaining the proper sonic alignment of the midrange and tweeter."" Kroll added that the baffle may also be angled for more accurate imaging when the speaker is off-axis. This baffle is built out of cast aluminum to provide for rigidity and heat dissipation from the midrange and tweeter. Both the BT1 and BT2 share Boston's 1-inch aluminum dome, neodymium tweeter, and the new 4-1/2-inch neodymium midrange. Bass is provided by the BTs' new 8-inch cast neodymium woofer. The BT2 houses two woofers while the BT1 employs one. ""One of the demands we placed on the design of the BT1 and BT2 was high sensitivity,"" Kroll explained. ""Ultimately, this benefits the power efficiency the speaker system."" Additional features include an EQ switch for use behind a perforated projection screen, a boundary compensation switch, a frameless metal grille, and bi-wirable and bi-ampable inputs.
