ViewSonicÆ Corporation unveiled its first 16:9 LCD multimedia display, the NextVisionô N1700w. The ViewSonic N1700w is compatible with HDTV receivers and set-top boxes at resolutions of 480p, 720p, and 1080i.""LCD technology is rapidly extending beyond the traditional desktop monitor to accommodate the latest in digital content,"" said Gene Ornstead, Director, Product Marketing, ViewSonic Advanced Technologies Group. ""The N1700w combines the best of a monitor and LCD TV to give users the ultimate desktop experience, from standard computer applications to HDTV viewing."" At an MSRP of $1,199, the N1700w offers a 17-inch-wide screen, a 1280 x 768 native resolution, more than 450 nits of brightness, and a rated 450:1 contrast ratio. Video features include 3:2 pull-down detection and a 3-D digital comb filter that supports both enhanced-definition television (EDTV) and HDTV. In addition, the N1700w delivers full-screen viewing and picture-in-picture (PIP) capabilities for watching video or TV content while working simultaneously on PC applications. POP allows users to create up to nine picture windows on the screen for viewing multiple TV channels at the same time. Advanced digital de-interlacing and image scaling, a 20-watt integrated speaker system, and a 181-channel tuner are standard.
