JVC Introduces Home Theatre-In-A-Box With High Performance In A Svelte Package

QP-ES5 Offers DVD-Audio Playback, New Digital Amplifier Technology, And Innovative, Easy Setup System

17-Jan-03

JVC combines new technology, unprecedented ease of use, high performance, and leading-edge design in a new home theatre-in-a-box (HTiB) system, the QP-ES5. The new system includes a pair of low-profile, elegantly designed components--an A/V receiver and DVD-Audio/Video player--and a complete home theatre speaker system designed for the most demanding movie soundtracks and music. Highlights include DVD-Audio playback, a new proprietary amplifier technology that allows the super-slim receiver to deliver superior performance, and a unique new setup system that makes setting speaker levels and delay as simple as a hand clap. ""With its DVD-Audio playback and digital amplifier, the QP-ES5 takes home theatre-in-a-box to a performance level usually associated with separate component systems, while offering the ease of use the HTiB customer demands,"" said Karl Bearnarth, Vice President, Consumer Audio Division, JVC Company of America. Unique to the QP-ES5 is JVC's innovative Automatic Smart Setup, a new convenience feature that makes it easy to set speaker levels and delay. The user makes a sound, such as a hand clap, from the desired listening position, and the built-in microcomputer automatically sets the sound level and time delay for optimum multichannel performance. The heart of the QP-ES5 is the RX-ES1 A/V receiver, a low-profile unit with a brushed aluminum finish. It features a 100-watt x 5 amp that uses JVC's exclusive new Hybrid Feedback Digital Amplifier technology which allows the amplifier to be extremely compact, yet deliver high power output. This new design uses a digital feedback loop to generate precise pulse width modulation signals, and an analog feedback loop at the output to deliver a higher quality signal to the speakers. Other features include DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ decoding, Dolby Pro LogicÆ II, four DSP settings, and an Audio Position feature that makes it easy to switch between settings for movie viewing and music listening--such as switching from Dolby Digital to a music listening setting with, for example, a lower subwoofer level. The QP-ES5 also includes the XV-NA77SL DVD player with cosmetics that match the receiver's. In addition to DVD-Audio playback, it will also play MP3- and WMA-encoded CDs. To deliver superior performance, the QP-ES5's speakers are larger and designed to a much higher standard than what is typically offered in home theatre-in-box packages. The satellites are two-way speakers with a 4-3/4-inch mid-bass oblique cone driver and a 13/16-inch soft dome tweeter. They feature aluminum frame construction, which lowers distortion, and the large mid-bass driver and cabinet provide a smooth transition between the satellites and the subwoofer. The system's subwoofer features a 100-watt high-efficiency digital amplifier. Its down-firing 6-5/16-inch woofer uses a lightweight diaphragm in a honeycomb structure that provides clean, tight bass performance because of its high rigidity--88 times more torsional rigidity than paper. The cabinet--made of laminated plywood for stiffness--is an elegant, rounded shape with an oval footprint. The QP-ES5 home theatre system will be available June 2003 at a Nationally Advertised Value of $1,699.95. For more information about JVC Company of America, visit www.jvc.com.
